Suggestion for japanese SMG in future campaign

As we all know, imperial japanese army didn’t have various smgs to be added in future pacific campaign. Instead of squeezing another copy paste, experimental or captured smgs, i suggest to give the katana to assaulter as equipable weapon. In historical aspect it fits as banzai attack, and gameplay aspect it gives unique experience about pacific campaign. I’m not sure, in balance and historical aspect, it would be
better equiped with type 100 or just with normal rifle, but in either way it would be better than just copy paste, experimental or captured smg.

if your thinking of the stereotype japanese one-handed longsword thats not a katana. katanas are shorter than sabers and have two-handed hilts

also swords are used in other campaigns as rewards for an event i don’t remember the name of

I would prefer katanas or tantos (I think they are called) just replace the axe in the Japanese logistics, while having regular sword stats.
I think a better way of balancing a pacific campaign would be to just make it so you unlock smgs later on (level 10ish). This would be fun, in my opinion, because it would force people to use mainly bolt action rifles.

I said katana for better understanding to people but of you want more detail here you go:

First 新軍刀(new army sword) implemented in 1934 by imperial japanese army 九四式軍刀(type 94 army sword)

Same sword used in contest to kill 100 people using a sword

Second, 九五式軍刀(type 95 army sword), implemented in 1935, a sword aimed more for productivity, but not vastly produced due to the start of war.

Third, 九八式軍刀(type 98 army sword), inplemented in 1938. The most famous japanese army sword

Fourth, 三式軍刀(type 3 army sword), implemented in 1941. It was less artisique, but more for field use.

Last but not least, 海軍刀(marine sword). This was used by 海軍陸戰隊(marine corps).

interesting. i didn’t know japan had so many models of sword in WWII, but it makes sense. which one are you thinking for the game? and sry if i came off sounding aggressive or like i was trying to start a fight or anything like that.

The word for the swords used by the Japanese military in WW2 is called Gunto, and the ones in ww2 are styled after a Tachi, which are longer in terms of both blade and handle length, as well as more curved. The trend is to give the Officer Sword as the reward for events, so I’m willing to bet we get the Type 94, as that is the one mostly intended for Officers (As it was the most artisanal, as you can see by the pattern on the blade). Only if that there was now sword for officers, do the Devs go looking for other ones like the Russian Cavalry Sabre, otherwise the US would have had M1902 Patton Sabers.

Both variants of the Type 100 are almost guaranteed, and I’m willing to bet the devs will also add SMGs which were reported to have been captured in the Pacific from the Japanese or saw use in Sino-Japanese War, such as the Mp-28, Mp-34, Sig M1920 and Beretta M38/43s. We probably also have a good chance of seeing one of if not both the Experimental Models 1 and 2 SMGs, as the model 2 was allegedly at Okinawa, and the Model 1s also allegedly saw use in the early war.

No, it’s ok  I just thought that i should’ve put more information about what should be added, so people (including Devs) who see this thread can have better and clear idea what i’m saying.

That’s what i said. Instead if giving copy paste&experimental smg, give gunto as unlockable level weapon for assaulter. For example, you reached lvl 10, you can now buy type 98 gunto, just how we unlock all other guns in game.

Not gonna happen, the devs don’t work like that. They are going to do everything in their power to force symmetrical balance, or what they perceive to be symmetrical balance, as Moscow has demonstrated. However, the cut and paste SMGs will also be in the American tree (as the US only has Grease Guns and Thompsons), so I don’t really see how this is that big of a problem.

lol

Symmetrical? You think MP40 vs PPD is symmetrical? Non of weapon in this game is symmetrical, even maps are. No one would like to see symmetrical balance therefore Devs won’t do that. And i don’t think many people would enjoy playing with same weapon that they used in all other campaigns. People wants new experience, not familiar experience.

I’m not saying its symetrical, I’m saying the devs perceive it to be. Otherwise, MkB would never exist.

Japan has plenty of smgs including multiple models of type 100 smg, type 2 smg and imporrted guns as well as a few others

Yes there is type100 smg, but that’s all. I don’t know exactly what you mean by “type 2 smg”, but if you saying the experimental version of type100, as i mentionned above, i don’t want to have experimental things. And imported weapons are just copy paste from german/italy. I don’t want to play same gun that i already used hundred time in other campaigns.

i want an Katana taped to my smg…Hoooooooooo!

How about, to substitute the SMG, dev could introduce more LMG. They already do this kind of thing (e.g Normandy lvl 16, axis get SMG, allies get shotgun). Type 99, Type 11, Type 96, Type 97 (originally tank MG but can be deployed outside of tank. maybe with and without 1.5x telescopic sight).

Although it’s kinda inevitable for dev to include MP28 and MP34 as Japanese SMG. or maybe they just do the 3 variant of type 100.

The Type 100 itself comes in two flavours: early and late production models. And the difference is quite substential - early model has a fire rate of around 450 rpm while the late model had around 800 rpm. As for the “Experimental Type II SMG”, it’s that gun with a banana shaped magazine:

There was also an Experimental Type I SMG, it had different ergonomics - the magazine was in the pistol grip and the stock was separate from the grip:

What the actual whuck

Was that a thing IRL?
