Thompson has the best DPS. I am tired of these arguments. However, this suggestion is another hidden Axis nerf. This is not required.
M1 Thompson at max stars does 8.2 damage, has a 265m/s muzzle velocity, and a reload time of 2.7 seconds. In comparison to the MP43/1 with 9.6, 680, and 2.3⦠I donāt think that at all is comparable. Nevermind that at max stars, Thompson has 27/6 Vert/Horz recoil vs the MP 43/1 with 24/6, so even if it was a handling issue, that still wouldnāt come into factor at the end of the day.
Dps more. In addition, a drum thompson awaits us later. It doesnāt make sense to change anything now.
This is a forum. Itās a place for discussion and suggestions, thatās the whole point. You didnāt even offer any real criticism, you just said it was a bad idea without justifying it whatsoever.
As for the actual post here, I donāt think the FG42 should be premium only. Itās too iconic of a weapon to be put behind a paywall. Iād simply suggest limiting it to Engineers or another class instead of riflemen.
maybe switch the zk with class restrictions
u forgot the ROF parameter in ur comparison
Normandy seems pretty balanced to me. wins are hard, but i get about equal amounts of losses. my main problem is rapid-fire sniping from at least a quarter-mile away
It doesnāt deserve discussion IMO.
Just another āGermany OP, must be nerfedā posts.
Are ever positive on anything or do you just troll the forums to speak for the developer team? Seriously have you ever offered any positive changes or ideas?
You must not pay attention
Oh plenty
you know the FG42 is honestly TOO good for it to be multiclass, yes i do use it, but thatās not the point since this about the normal rifles such as g43, garand, lee, and the kars
Exactly this. Itās easily the most powerful semi-auto in the game and itās not even close. FG42 single handedly carries the Axis in Berlin and, to a less extent, Normandy. The AVS is no where near itās level, and neither is the M2 Carbine. Not only that, but they made like 7000 of them and they were for the elite paratroopers, not the average guy in a trench. It simply shouldnāt be a standard mainline rifle, both for balance and historical accuracy.
Germany had paratroopers?
Yes, they were called the FallschirmjƤgers, we have some of them in game mostly in Berlin and FG is short for the Fallschirmgewehr
⦠and yet they are available to all squadsā¦
Because fuck it
Fair, I dropped the RoF parameter because that truly is the one area where it exceeds the MP 43/1 and I was cherry picking to point out the multiple strong-points of the MP in comparison.
Anyways, I figure I should get around to posting the next part to this Class Suggestions post series, the Assaulter. Itās the most highly valued, if not one of the most highly valued, infantry units in the game and deserves extensive reworks. I just donāt know how and Iād like to throw my own suggestions into the hat.
Made some edits to the OP, helping to refine the topic while including some minor changes such as proposed damage values. Recognizing theyāre a bit small, they go hand-in-hand with perhaps a proposed redesign of how damage is weighted overall. If thereās enough discussion/interest regarding perhaps a thread on that, Iāll start it for the general populace to hash it out/discuss.
My proposal would be to make hits on various limbs/sections of the body multiply the base damage (4x for head/neck/chest; 2x for shoulder/upper arm/thigh; base for everything else). With this, rounds would slowly fall-off in damage as in reality, but could still reliably lose significant punching power if they struck light/soft cover.
Went ahead and did some more late-night fumbling with numbers, research, and existence in general. Came up with some changes I actually think would work given my recent changes in mindset on the Normandy campaign overall.

I added the FG into my suggested Rifleman Tree, but placed it much further along. Upon further contemplation of the role of German riflemen and the FG 42 in general, I appreciate the dominance in late-game small arms Germany receives and feel this nicely complements other aspects of their weapons lineup.
-
I included speculative ammo assignments based upon the historical loadouts of the weapons/soldiers involved. Thereās a lot present, but I feel that the ammunition pouches should be something extra, given how often theyāre pictured already on troops in-game.
-
I included some specifications for changes to the Rifle Grenades and their launchers. I also included the British Grenade Launcher and suspect we might see the American M7 Grenade Launcher in the later levels of Normandy if it was ever going to be added at all.
-
I added/updated the Key to the overall post and statblocks present, and edited the text in the introduction and closing sections to better summarize my ideas in a concise and clear manner. I additionally expanded upon my idea of having Riflemen become more instrumental figures on the battlefield.

Oh, and I removed any allusions to damage, though I believe that going off of bullet energy (in KJ) and applying it an order of magnitude greater to my aforementioned damage proposal would work well.
good ideas, and iād add allowing knives to attach to guns in the bayonet slot, since i dont think soldiers with bayonets had them on until imminent close range (in addition there could be a keybind for remove bayonet)
