Discussion About Captured Weapons

The US 82nd Airborne Division captured Panzefäuste in the invasion of Sicily, and they like them so much they even deployed with them in Operation Market Garden. They later captured an ammunition dump near Nijmegen full of them, and continued to use them to the end of the war.
By the start of 1945, the Red Army began capturing so many Panzerfäuste that in February 1945 Georgy Zhukov actually issued an official directive that recommended their use.
These weren’t just things that were captured occasionally and used incidentally, they were captured in the thousands (more like in the hundreds of thousands for the Soviets) and used by units until the end of the war. For the Panzerfäust, it is more than realistic for the Allies and the Soviets to be able to use them.
As for other captured weapons, the Allies never actually used the RPzB 43, but the Soviets did. So while it would make some sense if the Soviets got them, it makes absolutely no sense that the Allies get them instead of just getting Panzerfäuste.
Some captured weapons are unrealistic to have, but when they were literally captured in such massive numbers that units actually deployed with them and used them for multiple years, or were literally instructed to be used by the highest levels of command, there’s no room to complain. Similar things can apply to German captured weapons. If they had enough of them to give them their own designation, then they probably used them in large enough quantities to warrant them being event weapons. All of these are still more realistic than a lot of the paper weapons or weapons that were produced in single-digit numbers being in game.
And if it’s needed for balance, like they are for the Soviets who never had any decent domestically produced handheld anti-tank weapons.

It is very plausible that the Allied armies found these pzfaust and shreks lying on the ground in various industrial areas of the cities due to the inexperience of new recruits

Yeee i don’t complain for soviets but for americans

Well idk i would like DF tl change the rocket launcher model by the M20 but keep the same stats as the RPzB43 since is more than enough to deal with German tanks

M20 would be cool, didn’t see service until just before Korea, but was in production by late 1944. I would also love if they made the sights adjustable for distance on the current M9.

Rocket Pershing was also not used in WW2.

So just add the Super Bazooka already

Yes weapons were captured back and fourth, but I just feel its lazy to have copy/ paste. After all we can just pick up our enemy’s weapon in battle. They should also make AT weapons pick-up-able. I think every faction’s arsenal should stand out independent and unique.

In my opinion I think the only acceptable capture content is if it was modified or changed whatsoever so it is at least unique. They are just a few neat things

  • Mp 717 is PPSh in 7.63 Mauser
  • KV given a German gun
I even accept a German T34 that got a cupola

There is a better solution than giving the Soviets and Allies copy/ pasted German weapons.

Well, you don’t get the point.

Literally nobody complained about captured weapons being ahistorical. Because that’s simply not true.

People are complaining because it’s ruining integrity and uniqueness of each faction. Enlisted is game, not history class.

If the captured weapon thing went overboard, it would more or less not matter what faction you play. It wouldn’t matter except for the uniforms.
Just look at WT.

So my personal view is that copy paste captured weapons should be in tech trees as little as possible.

As long as we get captured weapons in the form of event rewards or premium squads, it doesn’t matter to me.
If such weapons then have different ingame models and thus look slightly different, I’m totally ok with them

No! No more Lend-Lease! Not till I get my M3!

The only M1 Carbine I accept is a Japanese sawed off

A good justification for one unique squad to get them in their paratrooper box.

Most of the quotes I’ve seen about the amount captured seem to include the amount they captured total, as in after the war was over. It’s not clear how many they had, or what pattern they had. I would have rather the Soviets had some paper prototype RPG than getting to give every AT trooper a PF 100.

Problem with captured gear is that technically everybody could capture everything from their enemy.
So if we are ok with unlimited captured weapons, we may as well allow everybody to use everything. That would be great for balance.
Or we can say we don’t like captured weapons so devs add them only when there is really no other choice.

Is this over exaggerated and I’m just paranoid? Maybe. But I prefer to call it “caution”.

Exactly :100: captured stuff should be given in 2 situations
1-they were modified (doesent matter how small or the big modifications is, it justifies the T24 (HoweverI feel like this is insult to germans like getting your first 100 round MG but the enemy gets another 100 round Mg on top of their 200 and 100 round MG and to add salt to injury it is the same weapon albeit with different ammo to the one that germans are getting there were definitely other 100 round MGs that could have been added like T23E1 and E2 but no we have to give T24 that was deliberate IMO) yeah anyway I want M1 grand chambered for 7.7mm for Japan this was first step in making type 4

2- they absolutely need it for balance

you don’t have problem with this so ? xD it suits us nowhere if we do that

“Uniqueness” of each faction should always be secondary for balance. The Soviets never had any good domestic anti-tank launchers, so captured Panzerfäuste that they literally had thousands of are necessary for balance.

The majority of tech trees in War Thunder do not have many captured vehicles, and they’re almost all premium. China has a lot of copy/paste, but that’s all stuff that was actually provided to them by various nations. The “captured vehicle” problem in War Thunder is vastly overblown.
