SITREP №1 - Operation "Transparency"

You’re supposed to somewhat work with your team and not try to be a one man army type of stuff.

And if that’s not possible then that just gives more fuel to the camp which wants a PVE game mode.

a solo player is not a single soldier in the battle. a solo player is one that queues SOLO for battle, with his own gear, his own knowledge, his own skill, and his will to play the game in the hardest difficulty level available: a full random team with no previous intertwined preparation.

its actually, if you think about it, the most masochistic way to play the game. but theres fun to be had there.

a good solo player is not a one man army. it is a player that reacts to what your team is lacking, and try to cover and plug the holes as good as he can.

Indeed so that’s why with this communication this will be great for people like me who don’t mind that type of play style and you’ll start to see more stacks developing when people Start making alliances and bonds and if I want to stir things up I’ll play solo instead of playing with friends I make and make more friends and keep ever expanding again.

i am perfectly fine with stacks existing in the game. to tell the truth, i think the (total lack of) social interaction in-game between players is one of its greatest weakness.

player retention on a game not only comes from the good or bad end product offered, but also from the intersocial relationships that can be created within said game. there is countless examples of people that would had left X game long ago, but stays playing, interacting (and spending money) in said game just because they made a solid guild/clan/army of friends and have their fun that way. more power to them, more power to their clans, more power to the game.

this is not what im asking about, and not what im talking about.

it is not STACKS ARE BAD.

it is STACKS ARE BAD WHEN FACING SOLO PLAYERS.

Oh I absolutely understand that but I’m talking about making stacks right out of nowhere instead of with some sort of plan in order and so this will be testing your adaptability and how good you are at commanding people around you.

Dwarf Fortress has been in the works for quite awhile (alpha in 2006) and is loved by its audience, with over a million copies sold on steam.

After 9 years of intense development Enlisted would look like this if they followed the successful DF model:

Surely, you’d be informed on text console that your left eyelid started ticking because of the explosives spam…

I’m okay with it as long as the game is fun and the devs care about us as well as about the game and keep improving it. (Which is not always the case unfortunately, often it is one step forward and two steps back.)

I hope the preferred maps system will not be a rushed like / dislike option (which I dislike immediately).

Well at least you’re optimistic while I feel nothing but misery and despair and knowing how much potential this game has and how much has been wasted.

And the recent updates to dwarf fortress are looking quite great.

just imagine if instead of all that crap of wind on the paratroopers clothes, tank marks on the mud, indirect lightning realistic approach, etc etc etc, they would allocate resources to something that could actually SELL the game idea to more people.

NEW GAME MODE COMING! together with our full revamp of the entire social aspect of the game, now play 12v12 all out 3x4 stacks in a competitive, organized enviroment!! ranking, cosmetic rewards, amazing experiences!!! all new coming this fall, keep in touch to learn more in next devblogs!!! only stacks allowed tho, start getting those calls ready!

pros> new. flashy. useful. sellable. marketable. money.
cons> it requires work.

its not that stacks are bad.its not that clans are bad. its not that inviting a friend to a match already going on is bad.

it is the entire stack versus solo situation, which this will make many times worst if implemented badly. and we have some experience about bad implementations here, dont we? no need to steam about it for too long…

this part can go to hell because I’ve hated all these stupid graphic updates.

And this I would love to happen but unfortunately that’s never gonna happen because we wasted all of our resources in the wrong department.

And when it comes to that that just happens but I’m talking about playing random matches and befriending the randoms around you to make a victory.

If they don’t want it to happen then they need to make a ranked mode but they will still be Stacks forming out in the wild and you can’t really avoid that and I like for that to happen so this is where it will test whether you’re a good commander or not and good at commanding your teammates around you and giving orders.

yep, totally agreed. anyway, i was trying to get a clarification from the CM/devs for that part in particular.

anyway, the question been asked, i honestly have low expectations to get a decent, clear and understandable answer, and i loitered around posting for far longer than i expected. i try not to post in the forum save the most pressing matters, i dont like a forum where posts are deleted willy-nilly, and try to avoid it if possible.

THANK YOU! They say WW2 is ehe focus but many of the decision made recently and in the past clearly contradict that. Wether its AKs and M14S or post war jets and fantasy weapons. It either is WW2 or its not.

The sad part is that there is SO MUCH MORE stuff they could add even before we get into 1942(entrance of USA into the war). But they are acting as if the well ran dry.

That makes sense when transparency for this company is almost next to impossible and you are talking to a black sheep so I guess nice to meet you.

In my opinion, I don’t want a premium team to make significant changes after selling, especially if these changes still have negative weakening effects

I believe the #1 focus should be to get a proper squad system in place and people can communicate on the battlefied within your squad or other squads on your team instead of relying on 3rd party communications such as chat rooms, discord, ect. Make use of your radioman where he can be used to communicate if he dies your on your own or something of that nature would be really cool and strategic.

Back to the radioman how cool would it be to communicate with your tankers on the battlefield or finally have proper use of the mortor squads to relay where to fire and help support. There are hundreds of combinations that will work with proper communication on the battlefield. EVERY WAR ever taken place had some kind of comminication. Please devs consider this as a starting base and expand from here this can be reallly cool if implemented correctly.

I like to think about Enlisted as a multi-purpose WW2 FPS engine. (It was one earlier, but they dumbed it down.)

  • Your proposed advanced comms mode is just one of the possibilities, for certain players it would surely be nice to have. (The problem with full comms is that you have no idea whether you’re talking to a bot or to a human, even tank squads can be AI driven as far as I know. Even in games like HLL where comms is the backbone, it’s often not working.)
  • The normal Enlisted mode with minimal communications and “just mark the enemy and build rallies” works well for others.
  • The third level is the player vs. computer games which devs haven’t even started to explore, something @ErikaKalkbrenner suggested years earlier. No scripted challenges and no “clear Pokrovskoje from the enemy holding all buildings, you start off with 50 soldiers in reserve and get more with each building” game modes resulting in XP at the end.
  • Also there was a more realistic you-need-to-learn-the-enemy-uniform lone fighter game mode with 20 (supposed limit 50?) players per side and per squad voice comm/spawn on friends/friendly fire mode for a while. In this mode I was reluctant to throw grenades because of the high chance of team kills and no confirmation whether I killed anyone…

I hope they’ll eventually get some time to (re)implement other modes as well.
