Fortifications are far too easy to break as it is currently, every little explosion breaks them. Which I’ve made suggestions for to fix that issue, but as it currently stands, but people always fight against it. So this suggestion is to at least address the issue of REPLACING structures when they get broken, without going through absolute hell to do so.
When a friendly fortification is destroyed by enemies, (such as sandbags and barbwire) having the engineer hammer in your hand will show a YELLOW outline of that structure for up to 3 minutes. Interacting with this outline will allow you to build that structure back in that EXACT location without having to manually place it again, making it much easier to replace when in the middle of a firefight.
It will still cost the same amount of materials as a new one, it just makes it easier to replace without standing in the open while taking fire.
You are still restricted by the number of maximum fortifications.

I think you forgot something will this take up buildable slots because we only have so many sandbags we can place down
I thought that went without saying but I will add it.

What if I want to build it in a better way than before?
In my case, the yellow outline will just get in the way.
Unless I could remove it with J button as well? But it would still take a few, possibly precious, portions of a second.
Just look at it and hold the break button. It would take a moment, but at least you don’t have to stand in the open to do it.
A moment…
A button press should be enough.
Well, engineers don’t have to stand to build stuff on an empty spot either, so…
What are You even trying to say here?
To get good placement of structures, like if you are trying to leave a small gap between sandbags to shoot between, you usually have to stand up and fix the positioning to make sure you can set it right.
You can FINISH building it while in cover, but initial placement can leave you exposed.
