This wonderful mechanic should stay in War Thunder and anyone who knows what I’m talking about should agree. It creates an awful unfun meta. Tanks as they work right now are great and don’t need that getting transferred over.
Remove barrel damage from being shot because it creates an awful meta where everyone strictly aims for barrels to disable the enemy’s ability to retaliate. It’s a bad mechanic and shouldn’t be added. Disabling the turret with penetrating hits is the way to go. I’m not sure if the AT rifle banana peeling my barrel was a fluke, but he could have just penned my turret and knocked it out that way.
tl;dr Shooting tank barrels to break them is an awful mechanic and creates an unfun tank meta so it should stay in War Thunder where it started.
As a big user of the PTRD, and having had to do it with the T-60 as well as in War Thunder with the R3, aiming for the barrel is something I only really do if I can’t pen from my position. Damaging barrels is usually doable when you don’t have enough pen for the turret.
It’s along the same lines as aiming for tracks, just harder to do and more rewarding.
Tell that to the Leo 2A6s that snipe my T29 barrel despite being able to core me at any angle. Who then proceed to pump ten or more darts into my tank))
Again, this is the enlisted forum. MBT shit really doesn’t apply here and it takes more hits to break a barrel than would make it a sensible first choice.
Then explain how you think it works because that’s how it works when I shoot them in the turret and accidentally hit the gun. And how it’s happened in return with me.
Fighting Panzer IIIs Ausf E with a tiny and helpless T-60 is also unfun, don’t you agree? The only way I’m able to disable the enemy tank is through shooting its barrel.
