Not because of the balance issues or anything like that, but because they are guerrillas.
And one of the main “features” of this type of units (if you can even call them this way) was lack of supplies and often lack of ammunition. Of course it’s a game etc so they need ammo to be playable, that’s understandable. But taking main downside of a thing and buffing it to the point it’s better than ‘normal’ it’s simply absurd.
And since you get 100% ammo from picking weapons, I think it wouldn’t have much of an impact on the gameplay. If anything, less ammunition may cause you to do more scavenging and thus feel more like a guerrilla.
Except, some of those “guerrilla” units are actually commandos or regular units. So the whole previous part can be thrown in the trash bin.
It’s really amazing that designer(s) of this class managed to find his inner 5yo self, then just slammed together all his toys “because they look cool” and presented us this weird blob that has nothing to do with anything.
Honestly, when it comes to “lore” it’s simply a dumpster fire.
Yeah, that part I really didn’t get either. I see zero downsides to these new squads… literally zero. The only time picking up a gun and having full ammo makes sense is when the body is still there to loot and you’re not getting shot at. Now if this game was made slower we’d start making sense.
That goes for pretty much the entire game.
It’s historically themed but not historical.
Soon we’ll have French resistance fighting Japanese…alongside Moroccan volunteers of course.
I wouldn’t mind having a Commando class and a Guerrilla class both doing similar things but differing in stuff like the ammo bag.
Soviet Partisans
Volkssturm
Australian commandos
Generic Japanese infantry
Soon French Resistance
All these units barely have anything in common, and most don’t make any sense whatsoever in so many levels (Soviet Partisans in Berlin? Volkssturm in Africa with fur hat? La Resistance in the Pacific?)
Random ability to wander in the grey zone + randomly huge ammo reserve + 2 main weapons + 5 TNTs + ammo resupply from picked up weapons?
Feels super random, inconsistent and zero shits given about WW2.
They needed to pick 1-2 of those abilities max and go for generic “special operation units”.
In the current state it feels rushed, cash-grabby with prems and anti-WW2.
I mean, adding a non existing tank is a one thing.
Turning a downside of a thing into an advantage (while also marketing yourself as “authentic”) is another.
Yeah, I have mixed feelings about it.
I guess to a certain extent you have to if you want to cover as much as possible.
The whole regular/non-regular issue Guerrilla thing OP highlights could’ve been avoided though.
