I wonder if everyone who participated in the past still share the same sentiment.

They already kinda did, first they reduced the reward from full 350 to only 265 and removed crew kill points, and they don’t translate very well into actual XP. So, they’re a good way to quickly get points for the events, but if you want to actually progress the tree you have to do something productive to the team.
The sanction for these is meant to be subtle: You actually take decent damage from the tail gunners of the call in (large and exposed planes like the PE-2 or Beaufighter MK X will actually get torn apart within miliseconds) PLUS you turn your side/back towards the enemy plane the way call-ins fly across most maps so the enemy plane can easily farm you.
The underlying problem, IMO, is of course that the enemy often times doesn’t have a plane because a majority would prefer to farm with a tank. Additionally, slow planes cannot intercept the bombers before they drop their bombs even when they fly to the resupply point as soon as the bomber warning comes in and take the most neck-breaking blackout turn to make their way back to the bombers.
There’s really more at play than just the fact that the bombers give you some points - like Vyury says those are already heavily restricted compared to player-controlled plane kill rewards.
Aerial bombing is now only effective against monkeys that have no ability to fight back
I wish their bombs were bigger and faster
Instead of waiting for more than a minute to make up the numbers with a few small aerial bombs
The issue is, attempting to destroy AI bombers after they’ve dropped their payloads do not contribute at all to your team. It does not influence anything apart from the interceptor’s score. It will not affect the interval or strength of succeeding bombing runs.
It is a distraction that is valuable enough to have a player commit to destroying them, and at worst, it leads to scenarios where players who have factually contributed more to the team are denied a higher placement in the leaderboards because attacking bomber groups reward more score than playing the objective.
Do you mean that fighters in a war should leave bombers alone after completing their mission and trying to return to base?
This isn’t a war. It’s a game.
This was my initial reaction when they added bombers. My take was that it wouldn’t help the team and only increase an individualistic game play. I was pretty hard criticized by veterans for advocating a decrease of XP and making the grind harder.
Imo the solution should be reduce XP for shooting down this obsolete bombers (not remove it)
Considering the marked frequency of events requiring players to score a specific amount every 2 days, hunting bombers is seen as the easier way to do such event tasks.
It’s not so much that they are averse to the idea.
But events as a matter of fact make the playerbase less inclined to be scrupulous towards such methods.
You should use that fact to your advantage: call in bombing raids to distract enemy aircraft while you’re taking the objective
So…
Willingly deny your team the ability to call down arty during the entire waiting period and give the enemy team an opportunity to farm scores?
