Rally points are crucial to the game, this is something we can all obviously agree on.
However there are issues regarding what happens when people set them in areas with bad pathfinding, in areas with no cover, or completely blocked in by barbwire and sandbags.
SUGGESTION for Rally Point Preview:
When a rally point is selected on the map, show an active camera view of that rally point next to the map display.
This way, players can see exactly where it is in advance, and what is directly near it. Hopefully preventing a lot of the issues that we see currently.
SUGGESTION for Multiple Rally Point Change/ UPGRADE:
Rather than rally points that are generally near each other on the map being combined, each still stays as their individual rally points with their own previews.
However, if a player builds a rally point, and a teammate walks up and has the selection for a rally point as well, they are able to build upon the existing rally point, upgrading it directly. This will have a couple of effects.
Faster spawn rate, similar to how it is now
A bit higher durability, so that it takes more than just a single bullet or sliver of fragmentation to break it.
With 3 or more rally points combined like this, soldiers spawning here will have the stamina regen effect as if they had just used a flask. Additionally gets a little more health, to where it may take a full mag or grendade to break it. Though size will be increased.
With 4 rally points combined like this, soldiers spawned here will have a little extra (20%) temporary health points that wear off over the next 30 seconds.
It would cap out at 4 combined like so. With the fully combined structure being similar in size to a paratrooper equipment crate.
At maximum size it will require either manual deconstruction, several grenades, a TNT mine, Tank shell, Aircraft bomb, or artillery shell to destroy.
Players that combine their rally points in this way ALL receive points when there are spawns on them.
If a player tries to build a new rally, it downgrades the combined one.
Through these changes/ option for upgrade, it could give a lot more reward to players working together even at a fairly basic level.
YES, it can be good to spread out the rallies for better coverage, but sometimes more force from one direction is necessary, and with the spawn buffs from 3-4 rallies combined, that force may then have what it needs to succeed.
Lastly, considering that destroying a single rally point currently gives 55 points, destroying combined ones should give not just 110, 165, 220 points, but have increased value as well. So that
The issue with absolutely no queue is that enemies could then swarm too quickly and create a serious issue, especially in the instance of defenders not having a way to actually defend against that many troops coming through (fortifications are too easy to break).
It could go down to a 3 second wait time rather than 5 seconds though.
ADDITIONALLY there is the issue of soldiers trying to occupy the same space, which is occasionally an issue I see already. If AI get crammed together in the same spot, their pathfinding breaks entirely and the keep running and jumping at that same spot, even if you try to order them elsewhere.
The extra health option is there because at that point they will be receiving fire pretty much instantly. The extra health would let them have a slightly higher chance of survival moving from that rally point to the objective.
I kinda agree with some point but camera view can be exploited.
About the combined rally point…mhh is kinda hard to find more than 4 rally point for every objective and in your vision you have like 5 people that build rally in the same place, kinda hard, and in that case 100% you are playing with friend in an organize way so considering all bonus you just mentioned + the durable of the rally in question i’m afraid it can be exploited too.
It doesn’t let you spawn if there are enemies nearby anyways, so simply being AWARE of where you will be spawning doesn’t seem like an issue to me.
One of the reasons that I am suggesting it is that teammates often spawn on those forward rally points but don’t put their own up because it currently doesn’t seem worth their time.
(This is what I got from the conversations I had with a few of them.)
HOWEVER, if they can upgrade the existing one without spending much time, get additional bonuses AND get points for each spawn rather than just when it cycles back to theirs, they will happily take the 15-20 seconds to upgrade it, even if its not in their same group.
The durability can be up for discussion, but it definitely needs to be stronger than the 1 tap that they currently are, simply for balance reasons.
most new players won’t take 5 seconds to build rally, reality check dude
i would rather have command for your engi bot to build rally, so they just press one button. still many won’t do it but it would help.
now i mostly build rallies when my team has 0-1 of them and match is winnable. if i could send engineer on command to build rally i would do it every squad wipe
No one said spawning in the middle of a battlefield was a safe place so it’s a fair price And if there’s that many people Spawning there they should be dropping AP minds of their own
I think that any Rally point should be conisdered contested just by its very nature (not safe). Im OK with mines on Rallys and ambushes. I think thats fair based on the rallys nature.
But since players forget this, HLL has a system where it highlights the rally in RED if an enemy is in its proximity.
