And cant decide whether to choose a radioman or infantry into my squad.
What exactly is the difference between these two soldier types?
To break it down it is radio versus bag slot, right?
Or am i missing something?
Are there different weapon or perk restrictions or do they have some special perks that the other ones dont have?
Pick the radio. It’ll allow you to call in arty, even if you’re not controlling the radio dude. (He just has to be alive).

Radio in any squad but the radio squad is pretty pointless from what I see. You get one strike every 3 minutes and a handicapped soldier with 2 rifles and no options for more ammo/grenades/back pack. I always pick ANY other soldier over a radio operator

Radio loses the backpack slot and the ability to use rifle grenades in exchange for the ability to call artillery. They’re better than a rifleman because they bring at least some real value, ie artillery, even if you never actually use them, but I generally favor any other specialist if possible.
Can be useful to call in a strike before charging a cap… but it’s situational. Radioman is better than trooper though, if only because he can do something a trooper cannot. You don’t need more ammo with stereo guy, as he carries a spare rifle strapped on his seemingly not heavy enough radio.
I’d disagree.
Thing is, the radioman allows you to call in arty to soften up defense around a point, while the trooper just does nothing and dies.
Not necessarily a trooper has a lot more options.
Such as a large grenade pouch with x3 det packs
You would get more kills with det packs than arty

You have to actually be in position, with the trooper alive, and throw the detpacks, though. In an assaulter squad or something, you usually have better things to do with your control time, or simply other men who can do that job. The nice thing about radios is that it takes basically no time at all to do.
The only issue is that it’s an AI soldier. You’re gonna be using your assaulter/mg gunner/whatever your main dude is, not this random trooper. And before you die and need to switch, chances are he’s already dead.

Yeah but I like to get up close so that the blood of my enemies can splattered all over me
Cant get blood splatter on you from 50 meters away

I mean, I have like 4 times the melee kill ratio than the average player, I feel you, but you know, you can use artillery to spook enemies into your bayonets
Normal riflemen can carry FG42/AVS with enough ammo to get tons of kills. One strike every 3 minutes is simply not enough to counteract the amount of kills I can make with a rifle vs a radio. I play aggressive and on the point so for me more firepower is more kills

Radioman cant equip the FG42?
They can but no spare ammo for it
Yes. Which as anyone who uses them knows it goes VERY fast
You can, but the AI can’t. I like to flank and sneak caps or lead assaults into points. This causes my squad t odie far before I do. So the trooper is useless, while the radio op can help me clear out the point before I get there.
I’ll ak you a question: With your gameply style, how likely are you to have to switch to this one soldier? For me it isn’t very often. So having arty every spawn is much better than relying on that slight chance I might have to use that 1 dude for any real period of time.
Depends on who makes it to the point. Many get killed along the way. In-between the 3 minute cool down the radio operator is far weaker than a rifleman. It has one trick every 3 minutes and outside of that its all disadvantages. If Im on a point and have to switch to another solider the last one I want is a radio operator.
But typically its a radio or another specialty, not radio operator vs rifleman as you have to pick a radio operator or engineer most times. In the tech tree I never choose a radio over any other specialty
Depends if You are using the radio squad.
If yes, then even MG squad should get 2 engineers. Better using arty on radio squad only, for faster cooldowns.
If not, then having 1-2 radioman for all Your squads ain’t so bad. Sometimes You see enemy rally but have no way of taking it as it’s behind cover.
You have 2 MG squads, so one can be 2 engineer, one can have radioman. They are easiest to get radio into, then just have one other squad with radio for a loadout without radio squad.

I personally run a dedicated radio squad with two operators. I dont see the need for them in other squads when that squad is far better with them
