Picture this:
*You spawn a plane, throttle is: 78%
You go up to 100% because why not? You know 110% can damage your engine after 1 or 2 min. So no WEP (War Emergency Power).
You are on a plane and casually bombing. *
And then you notice your plane is loosing speed. No problem, you just reduce the elevation.
But one minute later it’s not enough. Now you are loosing speed and altitude. Your plane is not damage, neitheir is your engine, yet you strugle to even maintain altitude. And now you have just crashed.
100% throttle is not safe? I don’t know.
Oil just got too warm? I don’t know.
Should I do something? I don’t know.
Is it just something to prevent +5min long flight? I don’t know.
I just know I lost all engine power and crash while every button are perfect green. Please make an alarm or something.
i have flown entire matches on constant 110%, never had any issues with it. actually now that i mention it, i dont think i have ever gone under 110(/100) unless i was dogfighting.
i see people bring this up from time to time, but nope, never experienced it, not even once. guess i am just hacking or something idk
I have noticed it but only on certain planes such as the IL2, Yak, Chaika, and the 188. The 188 suffers the worst from this as you really do destroy your engine after about 5-6 minutes of 110%.
It depends on the plane you are flying. American planes seem to have the longest WEP timer, with the British also having planes with long WEP timers, meanwhile the Germans and Russians need to control their use of WEP, if the plane one is flying even has it at all. This system appears to be imported from War Thunder, where it is also like this.
flown every single variant extensively, never happened
only one i have a decent amount of playtime in is the one in moscow, and i have never had this issue with that one (i have also used every other yak, just not enough to draw any conclusions)
havent used this one to much either. but i know that its really easy to shoot it from the ground and damage the engine with AI rifle fire
this one i just dont get. i used to be the biggest most disgusting fucking plane rat in the lobby and i abused the fuck out of this plane, so i would definetly know if it had this problem. (in my experience it hasnt)
90% of my playtime in the air is as germans and russians, 110(/100) almost all the time. still have just never had this issue
The P-47D-22-RE in Normandy is probably one of the fastest overheating planes. I don’t know if it was from a gold order or a twitch drop, but as soon as you go above 78% throttle you start overheating. And once it overheats there’s is nothing you can do other than wait to fall out of the sky.
I could not get it to overheat. So then regarding the issue, I am going to assume it is indeed damage to the engine from gunfire but due to how terribly desynced planes are, is not actually showing the damage on the indicator.
i used the 188 event skin thats fully upgraded. my regular one is also fully upgraded so it doesnt really matter which one i choose (atleast in theory).
all 6 bombs still in bay and plane is fully crewed.
trying to go as flat as i could i ended up settling for a roughly 0.5m/s climb.
reached 400 at 1 minute
decreased down to 395 after roughly 4 minutes
still holding a steady 395 at 7 minutes
holding a steady 396 at 10 minutes after successfully flattening the plane by a few pixels
doesnt seem to have an effect on the plane at all really . the “overheating” is most likely just damage from small arms fire from ground AI building up over time (possibly combined with bad damage indicators)
This can’t be replicated in practice mode as it’s all local, no server sync/desync. I remember many times in Moscow early on in the game that AI would pilot snipe you from over 1 km away. The AI is still utterly broken with snap shots so I think it is a safe bet to argue that the AI are snap shooting planes and causing unregistered damage to stack up.
For exemple the Tunisia Stuka or the Potez from stalingrad suffer from this.
But the Thunderbolt can go 110% for 30min.
Maybe I will make a list: for each plane how much time it need to burn the engine at 110 or 100%
The problem is you don’t know until it’s toon late because there is no warning.
Karl and I just tested this, see above. It cannot be done in practice mode, therefore it is not the aircraft. Again, see above for my proposal of unregistered damage. The planes that get affected by this the most are also the planes with very weak engine performance which would be far more dramatic if they took minor damage.
I know it’s a real thing and I’m it’s not my imagination.
It could be “non registered damage” as you said tho, since it happen a lot with planes with bombs and little engine, and even if the engine is not yellow, orange or red.
