People don’t play video games to get punished; they play to have fun—and for many other reasons. Punish them enough and they will simply stop playing—which doesn’t help build the size of the player base.
So what’s the solution? Simple: Ask people why they desert, and fix the problem! For me, there are certain maps I just don’t like. Sometimes I’ll tolerate them and play them; other times, I’m just not in the mood and I desert. This issue is supposed to be fixed in future updates. Let’s hope sooner rather than later.
I can’t believe that the developers haven’t asked the player base for the reasons they desert. You can’t fix a problem unless you know the cause. So I’ll ask for them: Why do all of you desert games?

Plus anti desertion measures were already promised in roadmap. It’s not like we are not going to get them. That’s not even a question.

I based my response on what the original poster (OP) stated in their opening remarks: "I do not have much silver and still try to unlock things. once i get a booster from my 2 week big reward box instead of a gold order, i cannot even use it properly because everyone leaves.

No, that’s where you are wrong. Keeping around toxic people who ruin match after match after match is what doesn’t help build the size of the player base.
Basically NO ONE is arguing in favour of punishing people for having once in a blue moon issue where they have to leave
If you are leaving 10% or 20% or more of the games there is no excuse. Whatever “reasons” you give are made up copium that no one should care about. “My team isn’t instantly and crushingly winning” is not a reason. Either you play the game or you don’t. No one is keeping you here by force

and my team is not playing the game and we lost two points in less then three minutes and are being steam rolled
some of my best games were long slow losses

I hear ya, I live in the Philippines and the power and internet here are not great. I lose power at least a couple times a month, and I get frequent internet disruptions, so, in the past year I would estimate that because of losing power or internet while playing have deserted a dozen times or more.
The ONLY thing that will make players consider sticking around being someone else’s cannon fodder is a better silver payout at the end of the clubbing. I mean really, who wants to spend 10 or 20 minutes being clubbed and walk away with enough silver to buy a large ammo pack? The horrible game play is the cause, and until DF can fix the reason people desert, they have no chance keeping people from deserting.
In the end, which is better, to be playing with people who are pissed and not trying, or bots?
yea and the silvers conversion from rp is also really low like i think it 29k rp for 520 silver or something it ridiculous tbh

Quite honestly, what form of punishment would really make people sit up and say, “Damn, I don’t want that so I better not desert”? Banning or suspension would be the only things that would make me consider not deserting if I was frustrated enough and wanted out of the game. However, both hurt DF by lowering player numbers, and if their main excuse for not fixing things is that they don’t have enough players? Then, neither of those would be an option. Loss of experience or silver? That won’t move the needle.
Locking their lineup until the end of the match they have just deserted.
The intention is not allow them to desert repeatedly and efficiently.
Personally, I think if people desert they should get zero experience, zero silver for the time they did spend playing, and It wouldn’t bother me if they implemented locking play until the match ends. If I desert intentionally, it’ because they start me off after the first objective has been taken, or if every squad I have is just being vaporized moments after they spawn. Otherwise, I stick it out, and hopefully can just sit in my plane and get some bombing runs in as that is far less frustrating. However, the really bad games get me vaporized and my plane shot down before I even get a pass. In the end, I usually only play till my daily objectives are obtained anyway, so I usually just stick it out.

For example: number of times a resurrection point was used, number of enemy resurrection points destroyed

Relatable. Also i noticed if you sign in a gaijin account on a console first, you pemanently wear that console icon if you later log in through pc. so you won’t know which player is playing using console or pc
