they dont have maxed out stats, they are capped to level 4
Two good points there that deserve to be split.
Firstly, the fact that LMGs are insanely effective is a good thing in my view. Too many other games nerf the crap out of them for all sorts of stupid reasons under the balancing umbrella, and so ppl simply do not āfearā MGs. I like the fact that when you hear an MG rip in this game its a sound that gives ppl pause to consider their next move⦠This is a good and authentic effect of the MG to have in a game. Howerver, having said that, there are a tad too many represented in game and perhaps this needs to be re-dressed in future considerations.
From my perspective, the simplest fix is to essentially limit the number of LMGs in game in the broad sense.
To do this they would need to reduce LMG squads to a max of two gunners, and fill in the empty slots with an assaulter and a rifleman.
The premium squads can have two gunners and two assaulters for consistencyās sake, and to give that squad equivalent firepower in CQB.
Other specialist squads like Radio /Comms team, Anti-Tank Team should be brought into line with other specialist squads like engineers, snipers and mortar do not have that option, and replace the gunner with an assaulter (2nd NCO option)
This would leave the LMGs in game with the core Assaulter Squad, the core Infantry squad, and the LMG (read PzGren or Armoured Inf) team.
This would be enough LMGās in game, noting that the high level engineers would still be dropping MG nests around as the situation permits. I would also offer a nice separation between LMGs and SMGs and other weapons at medium to long range as per some of the previous poster comments.
Secondly, the ability to monetise the game via premium squads is not to be under estimated, and I do like the idea of premium squads being made to be the more esoteric variants of troops which were not as prevalent or that sit as a support element within the chosen campaign. A good example of a nice premium squad could be a Canadian,French or Polish squad as part of either the US / British campaign line ups for the Normandy Campaign, or perhaps the upcoming Tunisian campaign.
Its highly likely that the major nations like UK and Italy will have their own campaigns, but the smaller allies like the Dutch, Belgians or Greeks may be represented as premium units in the appropriate campaigns where they fit in - and Iām sure they would sell like hotcakes as there are many players from around the world who could identify with that rationale.
That actually makes some sense, but I see a not negligible issue making such change hard to do. That being, people may have spent (someone most definitely DID spend) money to upgrade squads and unlock gunners slots. Having them removed/replaced is sort of a devaluation, which is never a good thing in these games because either itās such a big deal that a refund must be issued, or it creates an incident that may discourage people from spending again afterwards.
The same is true for premium gunners squad. To give a clear example: being an owner of the premium US BAR squad, I personally wouldnāt mind seeing it changed to 2 gunners and 2 assaulters IF the assaulters were given adequately high end weapons, like Thompsons. But on the other hand, if the change was from BAR to a mediocre SMG like yet another Grease Gun, it would indeed feel like a downgrade, which btw would be yet another one on the list of downgrades all premium squads have reportedly been suffering over time.
It would be Thompsons, and just to be gimmicky and esoteric, theyād probably give you the drum variant too
Not sure about that. Currently, those would be the best US SMG in Normandy, and that could arise p2w arguments.
The only reasons to use Premiums are to get a headstart in a campaign faction and for novelty. Getting 5 star troops, better weapons and vehicles than premiums ones, and maxed squads makes prem squads completely obsolete in terms of āwinning powerā.
And it would just be worse if it was a cosmetics-based model. Imagine if everyone ran around with a gilded or golden gun or some stupid crap like CSGO, BF, or CoD.
I donāt think anyone here is advocating for those sort of silly cosmetics.
I think the concept is to offer up authentically equipped and uniformed troops all be it from the minor allies who participated in a given campaign.
Much like the BAR variants used for the premium squads, Iām sure they could find an effective variant of the Thompson or an equivalent US SMG (other than the grease gun) if folks are worried about a separation of weaponry between premium and core squads.
Not that Iād dislike running and spraying around with a drum-fed Tommygun, eh!
By cosmetics based, I say in reason, that is, to be historically accurate but for a premium squad, a historic exception. So for a Normandy Campaign, a Canadian or British premium squad which weāre doing joint operations with the United States. For Moscow, say ostruppen (East European) battalions for Germans in any of the campaigns.
