Please remove the super zoom on weapons

You know what I’m talking about, it’s just weird and jarring and there’s a reason no other modern FPS does it. Keep it for vehicles and rework it for scoped weapons since that’s kinda cool, but none of that stuff on ironsights please (even though the ironsights are effectively useless for most scoped weapons). This is probably the simplest post I have ever written, I was surprised no one made a dedicated post about it yet, but if someone has please link it and I’ll delete this one.

Normal (This is fine):

Not good:

Note 3/5/2021:
I’ll add as well, at the very least the devs need to fix control remapping for these different sight levels as they have been broken since the Alpha. There is currently not even a way to disable the extra zoom from my testing.

?? I have no idea what you are talking about. There is 1 level of zoom for everything except sniper scopes, which rightfully have their own.

have you ever tried holding down RMB? That’s what I’m talking about.

That zoom is a realistic level of vision, as computer monitors don’t accurately portay human vision.

Not having the zoom makes targets smaller than they would appear IRL.

You’re joking right? Please tell me you are joking. Have you ever fired a firearm? What happens when you hold RMB is not realistic nor is it good gameplay wise.

Several other games do this. H&G used to have this feature until they added a ton of scopes. Verdun has this, although it works somewhat differently. I’d say many somewhat realistic shooters do this to varying degrees.

It’s a decent compromise for long range between realistic human vision and representation on the monitor. What’s weird here is that we don’t really have long range engagements in Enlisted so having zoom makes little sense.

Pretty sure you’re talking about holding your breath right? That’s not what I’m talking about. I’ll attach an image. No other modern shooter does this and it is super jarring and weird.

I know it’s not exactly the same thing, but zoom is there.

I feel like there is a misunderstanding, because if you understood what I’m saying I feel like you’d agree.

If you want people to take you seriously, act like an adult.

Human eye is telescopic, monitor perspective is static. “Zoom in” is not how it looks for a human in reality, but it’s the closest thing that works well on a flat monitor.

I’m seriously surprised there is pushback to removing this; the zoom is just too harsh, I feel like that’s pretty non controversial. No other modern shooter does this, and it is not necessary to hit things from afar. Perhaps the regular zoom could be zeroed in slightly. Holding your breath is one thing, but having an eyeball that extend a foot in front of your face feels so awful to play coming from any other FPS. I mean, I respect your opinion, but damn, do you really enjoy this feature?

I’m not saying it’s strictly necessary on maps we currently have in game. I’m just saying it’s not as unrealistic as you were presenting it.

There was pushback before, but we told them the same thing we’re telling you and they laid off of it.

I’m just genuinely shocked; this is not realistic, not necessary at all, and really feels terrible when you’re playing. I genuinely don’t see the positives and I seriously can’t understand why you guys are against removing it.

And genuinly, please elaborate as to what you are talking about here, the “human eye is telescopic”, I’m struggling to follow. My eyes don’t have a zoom function, maybe that’s just me. Again, I’ve played tons of realistic shooters and I have never had a conversation about how telescopic my eyeballs are and how that translates into the game world.

Human eye can focus on objects in the center of vision at the expense of peripheral vision. It doesn’t feel like “zoom”, but you get greater detail on distant objects. The only way to do the same on the screen is zoom. Just google how human eyes work.

it’s both realistic and necessary. If you can focus your eyes you can mimic the zoom function.

Why not just render the center of your reticle with higher detail and blurr out your peripheral vision? That seems to work fine for every other game. I work with cameras for a living so I have at least a basic understand how the human eye works, this is not that chief.
