Play as Turret Gunners

Hey gents, Thoughts on being able to play as the Turret gunners in aircraft (1st person) and to be able to Spawn and Play as Friends or Partys Gunner if they have the avalible position?

This is a very welcome mechanic for me! I’ve devoted a lot of threads to it in RU forum segment:

Сенсация! Переключение на бортстрелков возможно раньше времени
Удалось переключиться на бортстрелка!
Забыли дать 3-его бортстрелка в A-20G-25 (Тунис)
Enlisted 2077 - появилась возможность переключаться на бортстрелков (мем)

fsr i managed to do that one time. it was definitely a glitch but it even let me shoot the gun.
no animations tho.
all ik is that u can recreate it with a full ju 288 on test map

There are positives and negatives to this, and finding the right balance is key to how it would be best implemented.

While I do think it would be handy to have an actual player being able to control the tail gun, both for use against enemy planes as well as some gnarly maneuvers to hit ground forces, you need to consider 2 main things:

  1. Who controls the flight?
  • Telling the AI to fly is a recipe for disaster. Either they will crash into things or they will fly in a way that is easy to be shot down.
  1. If there are two players, how does that work with spawning and such?
  • Having a player in each slot means 2 people in the plane and removing another mind from the ground battle. If that’s done, how does it make up for that?

The ONLY way that I could see this being implemented is if there is an option among pre-formed groups (parties, squads, whatever you want to call them), that lets a player look up at the teammate in the sky, and use a button to switch from their squad into the gunner seat of that plane. (Perhaps a quick little request and permission prompt for the pilot to say yes or no to them joining as the gunner.) That player’s squad on the ground then holds their position.

This way its a bit more flexible than having to spawn in together and stay together. The player gunner can help as long as needed, then switch back to their squad on the ground (if there are any left).
