Hello, I haven’t played any planes for a long time but I decided to revisit them after unlocking the MiG-3
As soon as I entered a match I encountered a Ju-87b2, came behind it and emptied all my ammo on him (20mm) but nothing happened. Enemy plane was still flying and bombing my team
I later resupplied and came back and Ju-87 was still alive, again I shoot all that I have at him and he doesn’t die
10 minutes later I finally got a kill because he crashed into a house while bombing
Next match I see a BF-109 and I approached him head on
I set his engine on fire and took his wing of
He dies but I don’t even get a kill. Instead the game counted it as suicide even though I destroyed his whole vehicle
Plane cannon also seem to deal reduced damage to infantry. One direct hit with the 20 mm TNSh cannon of the T-60 will kill an enemy. I strafe infantries with quad 20 mm Hispano of the Spitfire and only get hit markers.
I used M8 rockets of the A-20G-25 in Tunisia to shoot at plane out of curiosity. I was pretty mush point blank behind a Ju 87 and the rockets only give hit markers. The Ju 87 was still flying after the rocket hit.
Agree. Damage seems super inconsistent, I’m shooting a 1000 rounds of 50 cal on a plane for a little engine smoke and then the 13mm gunner one shots my fucking engine. GG.
I would like to note that I’ve ONLY had this problem when playing as Allies. I’ve played far less on the Axis side, but when I do, I NEVER have issues.
On Moscow, i’ve had so many times where I used the IL-2, and ripped into Axis planes with the 20mm and rockets and STILL didn’t kill them. It’s not that i’m missing either, its hit markers even for long bursts.
In addition, I’ve noticed a lot of times where I get them to where they have black smoke and fuel trailing them, they look like they are going down, then regain altitude and the smoke and fuel trails are gone. Almost as if they had repaired mid-flight.
Agreed. I try to use AA and on rare occasions it will actually kill planes in a couple hits, but USUALLY I have to drop 80-100 shots into them to even cause smoke.
The BOMBERS that are called in seem to take even more than that from the ground AA.

That is just ridiculous.
Yesterday I took out a bomber (from the air raid) with one M8 rocket.
When using the Beaufighter, I shoot 1200 (yes twelve hundred) 20mm cannon rounds plus 6000 MG rounds at the Stuka, hitting it plenty, but it hardly even starts to smoke.
And just as bad, the tailgunner of the Stuka has only one small MG but it shoots my Beaufighter into pieces.
However, I do believe the firing distance may be of importance here.
When using the A-20 with the MGs, shooting from a large distance at the enemy plane will give hit markers but almost dont do any damage at all.
Even when I use up all my ammo just for one enemy plane.
But when flying close behind an enemy plane, a short burst can be enough to take the plane out.
So the power of the MG bullits impact reduces greatly with distance.
I recon the same goes for the 20mm cannon rounds.
In fact, cannod rounds are probably more heavy than bullits, therefor perhaps the greater distance is even more an issue.
But I am no expert.
Following that logic, it should also be more difficult for the Axis aircraft to shoot down Allies with their cannons at distance, yet i’m still very often getting 2 tapped by theirs and getting taken down.
