Yeah it sucks, I dont even use my beautiful Beaufighter anymore just because of the useless cannon.
One time I used up all my ammo on a Stuka, no kill, reload ammo, again used all of it on the same Stuka, still no kill.
I leave him alone and he shoots my plane into oblivion.
Reading other comments it seems that stuka is the most bugged plane in the game.
No wonder I see vetaran players still using it despite being an early game unlock
Just a random thought, but could it be that 50 cals suck because of the hmg nerf?
Actually, the most “bugged” plane (talking about being an ultimate bullet sponge) is ME-410, but nobody complains, because it is garbage and extremely rarely used.

Nothing can conpete against flying IL2 sponge.

Maybe? Don’t think so though. As @JAREDUP says, the ground based HMG will rip an armoured car to pieces, but 4 (or 6) aerial guns will do far less. They still do more than the Hispano though, which is not really the way it should be. But hey, if it is broke, don’t bother fixing it and take the customers money anyway, right?!
Generally I’ve found the HMGs on planes a bit average, but they work. The 20 and 30mm German cannons seem pretty much spot on to me, they are a lot of fun, can reliably get kills, but don’t seem over powered usuall.
The Hispanos are very, very broken, and the ShVak also seems a bit lacklustre but not necessarily broken.
Also, all the large calibre guns aside from the 3.7cm BK and the 37mm on the Lagg are completely broken and have zero penetration.
