Overheat Removal PART 2: Tank and APC MGS

:star: 20mm Overheat Removal Part 1 - Suggestions - Enlisted <<< First Post here

Following on from the Suggestion to Remove Overheat from 20mm Cannons, I would like to now focus on the The Discussion of “Vehicle MG overheat Removal” (or Total Rebalance)

This is its own topic, as I believe opinions are likely to be more varied.

- In Favor Of “Total Removal” Like the Main Post
- In Favour Of “Decreasing” overheat speed Like the First reply.

Overheat Removal from Vehicle MGS

Personally, I see over heat (at least in its current form) as Severely Anti-Fun. In the past I have understood in “some” specific cases it was to keep them accountable. But these days Every BR has abundant, highly effective AT.

One of the Most “Fun” tanks you can get in low BR is the A.C.1. This is largely attributed to having next to NO MG overheat and a working Hull machine gunner.

Vehicle MG limiting Factors:

Vehicle MGS are limited by:

  • Limited Spawn slots
  • Severe overheat
  • vehicle bouncing and stuttering/rocking
  • Very Limited Traverse and Elevation ARCS (I’d like these improved on APCS)
  • Often a coaxial MG bound to a turret with sometimes very slow traverse speeds
  • If the Machine Gun is pointing at you…so is the cannon (most cases)
  • Limited Magazine size, requires reloading
  • Max ammunition Pool (granted it’s a fair bit in some tanks)
  • APC gunners and Commander MGs are severely exposed and very easy to Kill with small arms
  • Maps are very unfriendly to Vehicles, there are many. Their movement is severely Limited

In addition to this, Anti tank options are abundant at all BRs now. Its very easy to dispatch tanks.

Available MGs are needed for any vehicle trying to get close to the action.

Currently these are “Premium ONLY” units. While they are still very fun units, they have received some pretty impacting nerfs, including massive overheat.

  • They used to have AP rounds that did significantly more damage to lightly armored targets
  • Exposed Snipe able crew (LV-4 is the best protected, While the M3A1 is the worst)
  • Very poor traverse and Elevation arcs (Please improve)
  • Insane Overheat build up. (especially the German Half Track)
  • poor traction/acceleration/Horse Power
  • Easily Spotted and Fodder for any Aircraft about.

The selling Point of these Premiums, is that they are armed with MGs. Please make them more fun for the user. We support you with these purchases

Additional Bonus:

There are many vehicles with not particularly powerful cannons, but would be at least “interesting” if they were allowed to make use of their Multiple MGs, unhindered by overheat… They would be so much more fun and worth picking!

  • Panzer III B
  • Panzer III E
  • M14/41 (requires Hull Gunners to be added please!!!)
  • T-50
  • M2A4 (Stuart)
  • Many others with missing Hull MGs and coaxial.

This Brings me to another Topic of adding missing coaxial and hull gunners (but that will be another time)

Alternative Idea:

MG Overheat improves with vehicle upgrades. Warthunder does this (at least for planes). However…this is more work than just tweaking the overall current value.

  • Vehicle upgrade to 1 :star: Current overheat
  • Vehicle upgrade to 2 :star::star: 50% slower overheat
  • Vehicle upgrade to 3 :star::star::star: 90-100% slower overheat

NOTE: Dont get caught up on the % …They are just Examples!

Please consider Removing overheat “completely” Thanks!

Would Rather Keep Overheat But make it slower :+1::

I would also keep their overheat mechanics but not in the current state and if that cant be changed for whatever reason, remove it altogether.

Speaking of that, buff reload time of magazine-fed machine guns. Makes Italian and non-T-28 Soviet tanks a pain in the ass to play with.

Didnt know that one. Must try that one out.

Would also be nice if the gunner for tanks could also use the machine gun, and before we get confused I’m talking about the one next to the driver, not the one next the the main cannon.

when I say working I mean commander controlled…not AI controlled. just clarifying

I didnt expect less and is how I want to have hull MGs work tbh.

As long as vehicle MGs have artificially lowered dmg, there’s no need for overheating mechanic. Just annoying gimmick.

I think it’s cool, but honestly, I think there are a few things I’d criticize. 1) Make people using roof-mounted machine guns use the weapon’s sights, not make them act like iron sights don’t exist. This happens a lot with MG34 and MG42 machine guns on tanks, and let’s not even talk about the M2 Browning machine gun. Simply put, if you want a high-angle view, give it a mechanism that can do it.

yes the hull machine gun. That would be cool for AI to use. But I would be just as happy to have Commander control of it too.

Well, that’s already a case for tanks that have this feature. Only if you are in gunner position, then you can’t use hull MGs.

I forgot what it was called

Yes. Theres alot of Hull MGs missing though

This one for example would be so much more fun with them added (and reload buff)

*Edit…its not modelled in Warthunder Either…

To be fair, I find tanks with hull MGs to be just more annoying.

Because once first crewman dies, your crew will always prioritize hull MG position over loader position. Drastically reducing overall effectiveness of the tank.

I mean they could change that

Yes, they could have already changed it a few years back. But here we are.

It certainly can be changed. Big action Mod has really long over heat times lol

Actually he has pretty much implemented both of these topics fully

That would be cool. But im guessing alot of work?

Outside of overheat buff, their MGs should also receive dmg buff as now their mgs require 2-3 shots to kill a single soldier it should be buffed to kill in 1-2 hits depending on a distance and where you hit them (upper torso+neck+head should be 1hk, while lower torso 2hk).

Let’s start with trying to get rid of overheat. That alone will work wonders
