Opinions on the trophy JagdPanzer IV

I’m opening this thread to collect opinions, hints and tips on this reward vehicle.

Admittedly, my first impression of it was a bit disappointing.

In the matches I played, the main problem was that its low profile turned out to be ironically more of a hindrance than a perk, since in a mostly flat and heavily debris-littered location as Berlin, the low firing point of the gun makes it so that there appears to be always something blocking your fire line. Both the main gun and the MG fire from a point that is far aside and lower than the gunner sight, which very often makes it look like you have a clear line on the target while actually that’s not the case.

Second, the gun looked underwhelming to me. It looks like the same gun as on the Pz.IV, yet I somehow struggled against T-34s and Shermans; a lot of supposedly “green” shots did instead bounce or dealt negligible damage.

(The beloved “tank looks sideways but it’s instead actually aiming at you” bug surely doesn’t help, either.)

I virtually never use tanks, but after playing around with it at the practice range, I’m tempted to try it in a few matches. It’s been a while since I was in Berlin, but I’m thinking that this TD might do well holding the bridge on the Kroll Opera house map from the left side, where Axis tanks have a side view of Allied tanks approaching the bridge.

That thing dosen’t make any sense in Berlin. It’s worst at everything, then the regular campaign Panther, which you can unlock pretty fast at lvl 12. It has worst gun, amor, mobilty, even the MG is worst cause it overheats faster then the Panther MG 34. Only advantage it has would be the low silhouette, but that’s useless in urban combat, cause you can’t really camuflage or hide your tank.

I only see the War Thunder counterpart so my oppinion is in general pretty shitty.

Its nice to have
Sad that it’s on the same squad as the panther and panzer iv/70. (strong anti tank machine this one).

It’s a fun tank, on weak spots its a 1 shot hit against t34.s as I noticed on the only match I played with it. The low profile its both a advantage and a disadvantage untill you learn the sweet spot where the turret is on the sight picture. But overall too much debree in berlin for it to shine trully.

I ill use it, but not as often as the panther or panzer iv.

That type of tanks need their unique squad imo.

I would say, panther A and free panther equal >panzer iv arnored>panzer iv70>event panzer.

it really depends in which map you end up being.

in my brief experience, is the best tank destroyer of the german army in the current game ( perhaps the only one :upside_down_face: ) perfect for every BUT berlin maps.
( funny innit? )

my general tips about it are:

  • use it only for custom games.

  • always station your self near sandbags.
( the cosmetics helps more than you think )
for how dumb this tip might sound, they are going to be your best friend.
especially for the darker color too.
    and above all:
A, you can council your self under sandbags
B, some sandbags allows you to " peak " and shoot.

next thing that i say, is, if you don’t find sandbags, move from cover to cover.

  • weak frontal plate
even if you have an angled plate, that doesn’t mean t34s and SUs ( or firefly for that matters ) cannot go through.
keep in mind that the right side of the vehicle ( so technically, is your whole left of the vehicle ) is the vulnerable part. because you have the driver, gunner, loader and commander all crowded in one place.

whether on your right, you got only the loader.

so, the general idea, is to use it coinceiled from far positions. because of your armor.
( as i said, not really suited for berlin :upside_down_face: ) try always to stay at the left side of the map, exposing only your right if you have to shoot.

  • Ammo racks
wellll… this makes the whole points above somewhat useless. because if they get through, you have ammo almost everywhere. up until you will be able to select how many ammo you will be able to bring ,you won’t do much.

so yeah, it’s all about shooting from distance. the gun can do the job if you know how to aim on majority of the targets.

my personal review:

a 7/10.

the vehicle it self is good, but it lacks of turrets and it’s not really ideal of urban combat ( despite being putted in berlin ). so again, it’s more for custom matches where you can shine in normandy, and tunisia enivorement. carefull for the tracks though, anti tank rifles loves them.
still, has some camera and texture issues which i forgot to mention

bs.

is not the only tank hunter for the german army if we consider the hidden tanks in the files.

and if we count the other tank hunter that you get later down the line.

but it is better due to the low profile.

i feel ya its just like trying to kill a puma now every thing bounces even if its green

Panzer iv70 it’s indeed a tank destroyer.

And low profile goes both ways.

There are plenty more places a higher profile tank works better in berlin right now (my opinion and experience over all this months playing in berlin)

Panzer iv70 have only 1 flaw against other tanks, the vertical armor at front.

Jagdpanzer have a huge flaw in my opinion. The cannon it’s too low and way to the right where the sight picture is.

A small debree in front of the tank, it’s more than enough to disable the tank capability to shot on sight.

Imo, panzer iv70 it’s still a better tank destroyer… Just imo.

Also, just to add, the iv70 cannon it’s just stupidly good against current soviet tanks.

Jagdpanzer could work on normandy, and hopefully will come there. In berlin no, iv70 it’s still better overall if, the task it’s only tank hunting.

If we look at the tanks in the files, there are too many of them… From hetzer to jagdpanther\jagdtiger.It is not clear why not has in files Ferdinand and Elefant.

That would be better than a panther. It is not clear why it was necessary to add a panther to Normandy so soon.

Ok, TY all, glad to see it’s not entirely my fault and I’m not imagining things.

Dunno what could be done about the main gun, since optics be where they be. The machinegun isn’t coaxial, though, so it might be nice to get the loader’s view if you wanted to fire it more accurately.

They could do a better job of indicating whether a hit will penetrate or not, but there’s actually a good reason why the JPzIV struggles more to penetrate those targets, and it’s all about bore height. Firing from a lower position effectively increases the effective angle of the armor you’re targeting, making that armor both more effectively thick and making ricochets more possible.

you cant get on loader view, even tho, on the commander view, the mg42 works fine.

Eh, in fact I’m not complaining about bugs/inaccuracies, more that the vehicle is not really fit for such flat and littered maps.

Berlin isn’t available for last gen so I hope it’s available for me once i can play Berlin

that thing is not worth it at all,
sights are bugged, the gun is unrealistically underperforming, no useful MG, only 60mm of armor.

so overall worse than the Jagdpanzer IV A and much worse than the Panther.

Somebody actual plays Berlin? no way! lol jk

We’ve had half a year of “Jumbo OP!” spam, now we get half a year of “Panther OP!” spam. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be isn’t it? Also the first plane the allies get, the P-38 can just hit a good M8 rocket and destroy the panther so there really shouldn’t be any problems (just did this today so yeah). I mean sure, people always try to say that it doesn’t matter how I easily destroy more than half of the enemy’s armor even if I’m on foot the whole game, if they think tanks are OP they must be OP and must get a nerf so I might just be a top 1% player even though I consider myself just an above average player lol.

I think you may be right.

Yesterday I played it in Bahnhof invasion (attack), and the experience was almost the opposite than the previous one in Moat. Reaping infantry and winning duels against T-34s while tanking A LOT of shells. I only died when infantry managed to overrun and TNT me to pieces.

I think that part of the difference could be because the tankable area in Bahnhof is streets and squares with lots of “big” debris and carcasses to hide behind, but less “small” debris potentially obstructing your aim.

And indeed, when I hid the driver side behind a wrecked bus and only exposed the gun, I bounced several hits from the T-34 I was facing.

Eventually, I also realized that going for the turret ring is the most effective way to pop them up. That requires careful aiming tho.

Sights aren’t bugged, it’s just that the sight is actually far from the actual gun. You must consider that your shells will fire from roughly a meter to the right and below from your crosshair.
