New costs, after consideration

So I’ve been sleeping on it, and realized something rather important about the COST of new soldiers that makes the new tables very… veeeery bad because of one, tiny but oh so important detail:

  • Soldiers will still be sold with randomized stats.

That fact alone makes the illusory savings devs and testers spoke of vanish completely altogether.

Take a class 4 assaulter. When you hire him, you make sure he has decent to perfect stats right of the bath, yes? If not, no worries it’s easy to sell him and just try for a new one for 1 silver a pair of boots. Now let’s try doing this, but with 11,5x the original cost per hire.

I have some suggestions to try and solve this issue:

  • Just stop it with stats randomness. Nobody likes it and devs claim they want to remove gacha and “loot boxes”.
  • Drastically drop the cost of new soldiers.
  • Allow us, for a fee in silver currency, to “buy” the missing stats points until we reach the perfect maximum.

It’s either that, or I’m sorry to say, but those new prices are just plain scummy and there’s no way I can support them. Can already see the joy of ppl grinding 11,500 silver only to hire an assaulter 4 with worst possible stats in him.

Your worries are legitimate. However, given that the perks system is supposedly going to be revamped as well, that may not be as big of a problem as it can seem.

Iirc (CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG) soldiers will have a single large pool of perk points instead of 3 separate stats, and we will be able to arrange our sets according to the cost of perks alone.

Therefore, we probably need to wait for the detailed devblog about the new perks system before grabbing torches and pitchforks if needed.

11 silver for a one single assaulter IV… when a player needs to buy at least 4- 5 of them to make sure that the soldier has the best possible stats.

Now - to play the game a new player needs at least 2 assaulter squads with 4 assaulters - almost 400 silver orders to equip his army.

Not to mention other soldiers (engineers / radio-operators / machine gunners) and of course - others squads (tanks / flametroopers / engineers) and squads of lower ranks (assaulter I / II / III) which he will use during the grind.

You are partly correct,

But as we know them, it might take a while, a bipod fix long while, until things are fixed…

Which means if they release it like this, without perks rework (that could be done much later), we could have to endure what is just a very, very bad cost inflation for a while.

As for the perk pool, we will have them like devs said, but they will require stats as usual. So a rifleman with worst possible maxed stats 15/15/15, will be able to take as many low cost perks as his stats allow, but forget about sprint boost, or health perk, or horizontal recoil perk.

Which means… good stats will still matter a lot.

If the perk pool will be unified, a 15/15/15 soldier would get 45 points. Still lower than, say, a 18/18/18 getting 54, but enough to fit in one higl level perk or two.

For me it looks like soldiers will be more expensive and in return we won’t be able to upgrade them.

I have no idea what they are doing so I’m waiting for the test server.

Perks should have their own separate option where you can choose what perks you want to achieve at the highest levels according to your play style and the way you use your soldier. In other words, it would be as skills that improve depending on how you use your soldiers. You want max vitality - you try not to die, the longer you last the available squad, etc., and same with other perks.

I think it’s easy enough to do. Because the less this game will have unnecessary rng mechanics and the building of soldiers will be handed over to the player with full tools, the better.

No, that’s not it.

I might be wrong but:
You should keep your 3 primary stats. But the amount of perks you can choose won’t be limited by some star amount (max 5) anymore. You could take 10 cheap perks if you wished.

Yeah I remember now.

Because primary stats amount have small effects on the soldier behavior. A soldier with more green stat (I think) will have more stamina (or was it regen) than one with less.

Which makes soldiers with decent stats more important…

Unfortunately I havent been able to find the post to confirm, but I swear I read here somewhere that random stats would be normalised. And Im not the only one that seems to remember it.

Also that stars would be replaced

But…

Vault cat said herself in the news thread that stats will stay randomized.

I’ll try to find it, gimme a sec

This also implies getting attributes with levels instead of stars…doesnt mention if its still capped

Here.

Sorry, stats will stay rng it seems. Which makes costs exaggerated imo.

Well i guess they know best. I just know there was a post about removing the rng from soldier attributes months ago…

But as I cant find it…what i remember appears invalid.

There was a thing about removing RNG, just not what you think.

Now when you choose perks, you have to pick one from random 3. In the new system you will have acces to all perks to chose from, no randomness.

Yeah I remember that too, but as a seperate entry because that was easily understandable.

There was something else along these lines

They should have decided to remove the annoying Tier system of soldier all along. At the end, Assaulter II (if the first Assaulter is medic) and Flamer 2 were actually usefull.
Just confusing and makes Premium and Event Squads a hell to level-up. Best examples those riflesquads in Tunisia.

Quite frankly, if that rng part of buying a soldier were to be removed, or fixed with one of my suggestions above…

I’d be fine with proposed prices.

“Dont worry guys. RNG of levels and stars for soldiers and guns are no issue in the future. Fuck RNGesus.”
“Oh wait, RNG is still there but that is okay for us.”

Hey @EdVanSchleck , as a tester, what do you think of it?

@James_Grove would it be worthy to send to the devs for them to see?

Would removing stats rng or allow us to “buy, or train” soldiers to reach “perfect” stats be a good idea?

Think the devs could look at it? Because apart from this (very important) point, prices seems ok.

I don’t see a problem with random stats imo, but when dev server gonna be launched, helpers team surely will collect all available feedback about changes that will be on dev-server.
