That’s the problem even if you do that they already closed the distance and your basically dead… And your saying this assuming your not already focusing on fighting the enemies right in front of you…
Because its more effective than a shotgun or SMG at close range… I get 15 kill knifing sprees very often because its a 1 hit kill and don’t need to reload… Don’t get me started when I got a speed buff, melee damage buff, and an axe…
While it may look like a simple knife I might as well be wielding fucking Excalibur… I think my record kill streak with melee only was something like 33…

It’s really not nonsensical, given the wound track of a stab by a large knife will be larger than that of most common small arms. Even moreso the case with people who have a hatchet running around.
Plus there’s the game balance standpoint of how challenging it should be in theory to get close enough to someone to be in knifing range in the first place.
I think it’s absolutely all right to kill someone with knife in one stab. But.
My problems are:
- It’s possible to stab someone facing you so that he does not sound an alarm alerting others, and all stabbed people die silently (or not in a way that I recognize it was a melee kill). If an knife attack is done from behind, all right it can probably be executed so, but otherwise rest of the group must be on alert.
- Once someone is aware of an attacker with knife, it won’t be a 1-2 sec session per person facing you. There would be resistance, kicks, jumping back, rifle tossed in between etc. So even if the attacker is in plain advantage, let’s assume a 5-10 second per kill. This is not so in-game I think.
- With the limited field of view you are not aware of 50% of what your soldier is aware of, so already the guy in immediate danger could auto-turn against the one wielding a knife and block the first attack before you react, unless the attack is from behind.
- Someone entering a group of enemies should not get out winning as often as in-game. If devs would introduce martial arts perk, and attacker has in addition the 100% melee damage and extra running speed, and the soldier is 5-stars, then maybe. I guess 1 vs. 2 is usually hard but doable, 1 vs. 3 is next to impossible if the enemy is prepared to fight.
- Passing through enemies (let them be alive or downed) was too easy (don’t know the current state, probably did not change). They would be there and would prevent you from running.
Killing 10 soldiers of a group of twenty standing together in the open fields seems ridiculous for me (happened last week). Obviously some would be wounded, but after stab attempt #3 you would be the lowest layer of a 5-men tower.
Yeah, the problem is AI and player awareness, there needs to be audible responses to being stabbed by AI soldiers. (or just being killed in general if it’s not a headshot) Honestly, the kill time would probably be fine if your AI responded to someone stabbing a member of the squad, and were better in shooting in close quarters in general.
I think the knife is fine, but if some people have problems with it, to solve that “problem” maybe make players/bots shout when they are stabbed.
But I still thinking, you must be listening when you are inside a building, I’m always listening the environemnt inside a building, because I know someone can be trying to kill me.
