If you get annoyed by the explosive pack destroying a Jumbo, try playing just Axis on Normandy for a while and you’ll see how hopeless everything else is against the tank. Panzer IV v Jumbo or T-34/85 is not at all a reasonable anti-tank strategy for the Axis, while mines and Sturmpistole are jokes. In these cases, explosive packs are the only remedy.
At least on Berlin there is the Panzeefaust, the sturmpistole is a living joke.
Remove explosives packs completely and replace them with AT grenades. Let us open the tank hatch to throw molotovs/nades inside or shoot through firing ports. I don’t have anything but explosive packs equipped on every single squad in every single campaign, the rest of the throwables are completely useless in comparison. Or at least restrict them to bombers/engineers, I don’t know. They’re ridiculously broken for both AT and AI duty.
A lot of my soldiers still carry 1 fragmentation grenade - they can be thrown further and seem more accurate - more easily able to get inside a window for example.
Apparently they are also more lethal vs infantry.
What if they are locked from inside?
…ok, after reading a bit about it, most probably those hatches aren’t locked until getting into infantry fire so if you just killed the commander who was peeking out, you should be able to throw in a grenade right after, in the next 10 seconds or so until they switch positions to lock down the hatch.
At least there was a Quora answer suggesting Sherman, Tiger and T34 was lockable, and probably all the others.
HE rounds fired from tank guns would actually have much less explosive power than a demolition charge as most of the weight of an explosive filled shell is it’s casing. Demolition charges applied to the tops of undersides of medium tanks would produce enough explosive power to break welding seams between armor plates or sheer off rivets. The problem lies in the map design being very unfavorable to tanks. It was well known that tanks should not be operating so close to enemy infantry, doing so anyway should put you at a disadvantage. Molotovs should also do severe damage to tanks if they strike a grated or slated engine compartment covering. They would melt rubber hoses in the engine compartment resulting in fuel being exposed to the fire. If the tank crew had an internal methof to check the engine compartment and they did check it for even the briefest of microseconds they fighting compartment would become filled with toxic smoke as the cocktails included various chemical to achieve this effect.
Every time these threads appear, first thing that comes my mind is how to balance tanks after nerf or removal of most common at weapon.
Mayby tnt should be nerfed but in exchange nerf tanks too. Make severe damage in tanks unrepairable, it would be realistic too. Tankers didnt reapair broken barrels, gunbreeches or transmissions on field.
Also to prevent endless tank spam add limit how many tanks can be used per match, like 2 per player.
That would keep tanking and anti tank gameplay fun
And that would mean even less tank kills when playing infantry. Which I love. So I still think better not to change detpacks right now.
we can agree that instead of deatpacks we would need anti-tank grenades, same use but more historically correct
Sure, but that’s just cosmetics - the OP’s idea of safer tanks vs regular infantry is not touched by how we call our ultimate anti-tank grenade.
If detpack/anti-tank grenade would take 3 slots and from normal/smoke grenades we could carry 3 by default, now that would be an interesting change.
The TNT pack I’m pretty sure its 1kg, so it does have more TNT than the 75mm HE rounds
USA 75mm HE = 680g TNT - 75 mm gun M2–M6 - Wikipedia
German 75mm HE = 510-660g TNT - 7.5 cm KwK 40 - Wikipedia
British 75mm HE = 680g TNT - Wikipedia Ordnance_QF_75_mm#Ammunition
Remember that literally EVER infantryman can carry anti tank weapons, while on the other hand there are just two tanks at a time. Another way could be increasing the max number of vehicles per squad from 2 to 3.
Everyone can carry, because that’s kind of the point. The explosive packs aren’t that cheap to equip on every soldier, either.
If you run a infantry unit, you can get killed by everyone. If you run a tank unit, why would only a few enemies be able to defeat you, provided they survive closing the distance to you?
I agree that explosive packs shouldn’t immediately destroy a tank, but they should kill important systems and force the crew to bail out and repair or risk the ammunition detonating them into pieces.
“GuyS WhAt If EvERyOne Was IN TanKs???”
just stop. you are embarrassing. go back to war thunder.
Satchel charges would have as much as 4kg of explosive, and were considered enough to destroy a medium tank.
US M37 Demolition kit had 8 x 1lnb (.45kg) blocks of explosive so could be made up in various sizes - https://www.bits.de/NRANEU/others/amd-us-archive/fm5-25(67).pdf
Please say to me when ever I said that. You can’t tell me that in medium to close quarters killing tanks isn’t ridiculously easy. Also, you don’t know who I am so stop with your cheap sarcasm when I am trying to bring a serious argument without offending anyone.
Tanks are incredibly easy to use and insanely powerful. the fact that you do poorly with them by people placing explosive charges under your tanks is 100% a learn 2 play issue.
Cope harder
Ok, it’s clear that you have no other argument beside “you can’t play tanks”
For the 10th time: I find too easy and unbalanced AS AN INFANTRY PLAYER to kill tanks with charges. When I play as a tank I know how to avoid these situations but there are maps and places where you can’t just do it. Where are you supposed to stay safe for example in Berlin where in some points there is literally no open ground and you have to go straight into the city to support infantry?
You realize dying is a part of the game right? Urban warfare is also the most dangerous place for a tank to be so it’s logical for that to be the campaign that is most dangerous for tankers.
.>screen with infantry
.>infantry stop enemy infantry from climbing on top of your tank and detpacking it
This is 100% a learn 2 play issue.
I get it though, you are so good at the game. everyone here is so good, everything is 2 ez and we all ask for shit to get nerfed into the ground not out of a personal agenda but because it’s 2ez. You, for a second, don’t think I’ve heard this argument before ad infinitum since OBT started? I have. It’s drole and it’s stupid. You have the self awareness of a goldfish.
you are NOT supposed to survive
