Mosin vs Mauser Damage

Why are the mosin overall deal more base damage than the mausers only the only German rifle that is an equal footing with the 15.0 base damage mosin rifles is the kar98k with the grenade launcher, shouldn’t these rifles have the same damage?at least with the pre war and the kar98k?

Barrel length is quite different on these guns (728mm vs 600mm) which leads differences in muzzle velocity and energy. Weapon stats are still very questionable in this game overall, but this particular case is not.

Muzzle energy is not everything. The 7.62mm round is smaller and would do less damage than the 7.92mm round with equal bullet energy. The 7.62mm round makes up for that by having higher bullet energy.

Furthermore, this game is not a mil-sim, it is a “realistic” shooter which should not balance its weapons based on only historical data, but also based on gameplay balance. Otherwise, why would we have perks that just give 35% more health? magically make your guy eat more bullets?

There are no german rifles that do 15 damage among the normal bolt actions. Both germany and russia get a grenade launching rifle at level 17, something nobody has reached yet by a long shot. The russian rifles do equal damage except for the M91/30, which deals 15 damage.

and m91 dragoon and the winchester basically everything is 15 other than the 2 carbines

Oh, they buffed those last patch then. Those were 13 damage before.

Game balance is more important than muzzle energy or barrel length in my opinion. As of now the only rifles capable of killing a soldier with the 35% vitality perk without weapon upgrades are the 15 damage rifles

Also why does the Kar98 without the grenade launcher attachment have less damage per bullet than the standard Kar, that makes no sense

yeah plus that let’s be honest if you shot someone point blank range at middle of the chest and he doesn’t fall down to heal it’s ridcoulous i was immideitly put of by sych an incident against a premium russian soldier who just shot me as i was loading the next round into the chamber

It’s ironic how the first reaction from many people is that “balance is more important than realism” when we would have had better balance if the game was actually realistic. (As in no +health perks, no ability to increase damage to a point where it changes the number of hits to kill, etc.)

Actually, upgrades could increase damage. Such as tooling techniques and bullet types (FMJ vs JHP) Plus ammunition quality, alot goes into calculating damage

Strangely enough, I don’t see you listing the +1 to +5 enchantment among possible upgrades that could increase damage. Because that’s what we currently have.

I’m saying this in response to you bringing up barrel length when explaining why certain guns have different damage. I’m not sure why you took this as a personal attack, Im not trying to blame you or call you dumb for what you brought up.

I would agree that removing the extra vitality pert and removing straight damage upgrades would be better for the game.

The problem with adding realistic damage to ALL weapons would be making Semi auto rifles (and STG’s in the future campaigns) OP when they are introduced/reintroduced to the game. Their is a reason that games with realistic weapon damage (Post Scriptum, Squad, Rising Storm 2) have no progression system for guns, because locking the overpowered guns behind a grindwall and making the noobs use the underpowered equipment makes the noobs leave your game.

In general when you have a progression system you have to have a balanced game to stop the noobs from being frustrated into quitting, unless the devs can find a way to monetize this game without a progression system (which i dont think they will do) they will have to compromise on realism for balance (and hopefully not compromise on realism to create imbalance).

And this is why I hate the weapon nerfs, especially the fact that we now have “starter bolt action rifles” that are literal garbage, especially compared to the russian guns. Before, a bolt-action player, with enough skill, could beat anyone by simple superiour aim and reaction speed. Now that is just too much effort as only headshots deal enough damage to oneshot.

I put a 8mm bullet in the premium squads chest POINT BLANK and he just flinches, what the fuck
