IMO, mortar is counterplay to pilots and artillery spam squads. If i constantly die by plane bombs and artillery spam doesn’t allow me to enjoy the game i usually take mortar squad and give them their own medicine. Btw, I like that they removed a lot of screen shaking when mortars hit but afterall i think they shouldn’t nerf them more.

It means they have to treat a light mortar like a light mortar now instead of a personal artillery battery.
You’re supposed to use it as a precision weapon against high-value targets, not just dump it at random all game.

Reminds me of when mortars got really bad in closed beta so there were 3 on the enemy team on top of 2 tanks and a plane.
It was like pulling teeth to play but they had nobody left to push so they didn’t get past the third point anyway.
I know i have unpopular opinion regarding mortars but they’re also a part of the game. Enemy pilot takes out my whole team at our spawn so their troops can rush the objective, i take out mortar to stop them. Nothing crazy about it. Some points are just impossible to hold with tanks and infantry alone if you’re facing strong enemy team, so no one should blame anyone if they play to win.
Just have more than 1 mortarman in your squad, bro. Each one carries 10 rounds x number of troopers
they should have just been useable on the field and shot up a plum of smoke with each barage, squad is useless now.
I also dont even use the squad but its wasted dev time at this point
Would be nice to have the option to bring mortars in other squads like before but other than that, mortars should stay the way they are.
They were part of the radio squad in CBT. You can fire 10 rounds when you spawn depending on the situation and move to fighting with the automatic guns. Then, mortars are somewhat usable.
If you just got the mortar squad you don’t get another mortarman until you upgrade the squad enough to get one, and 10 rounds per unit doesn’t mean every single round will get you a kill or wipe out a whole squad like arty can also mortars only have a max range of around 253m while arty you can drop while your in the farthest corner of the map, mortar can also go off course of where you were shooting and make that a waste of a round
Mortars are finaly nerfed, this alone makes this update the best one so far.
Combined with 48sec cooldown on artillery, matches are now far better in terms of playability.
Screw mortar spammers.
I agree on you with the artillery cool down being raised from 30sec to 48 but i disagree with the mortar squads they are not as OP as everyone claims they are, unlike arty squad where you are most likely guaranteed a kill from each strike, the mortarmen aren’t. I’ve been working on upgrading my mortar squad recently so i’ve been playing it a lot and most of the times i’ve only got around 10-20 kills using a mortar squad with a full ammo box i’ve placed down from a previous squad while radio squads i can get up to around 50+ kills and a ton of assist heck i’ve even killed tanks with the arty
Middle point is, IMO, double mortar ammo in mortar squads, (or if that’s too hard, just add two mortarmen to the mortar squad that you can replace troopers with) and put mortars in regular squads.
First thing first, it has a giant red circle on the map that AI will avoid, so getting one kill is pretty rare. The issue with both of them is that they block objectives. The mortar has no red circle and a much larger explosion radius. Its easy to wipe whole squads with mortars.
I’ve never once seen a radio squad player get more than 10 kills unless they just sit in the back of the map the entire game… in which case a mortar is much more effective
The explosion radius for a mortar shell is ~1/3rd that of an artillery hit, however, damage is higher within the mortar’s explosion radius, and they tend to be more accurate, as obviously they’re aimed shots unlike the random spread of the artillery strike.

It’s far from useless. It was utterly broken before. It’s now in a much better place balance wise.
