Mortar Spaming

I suggest that the Devs do something about Mortar Spamming. I know there have been other complaints about this subject. I recently played a game where a cap point was continuously bombarded throughout the entire match making it impossible to take. It was never taken in the match as your soldiers were killed trying to get through the barrage. My squad was trapped in a house adjacent to the cap point and it was impossible to leave so I know the point was continuously bombarded. This just destroys the fun of the game and will cause players to not want to play the game.

Short-term solution is to find the mortar and attempt to hold down M and then Alt at the same time to be able to tag it on the map for air strikes.

But long-term, mortars definitely need a hard limit on their ammo.

Currently, I heard about a bug that can make you exceed main weapon ammo limit, and it is used for mortar role, according to one of my local chat gruop.
But since I havent unlocked mortar yet, Im not going to report this.

The main problem with the mortar is that its actual rate of fire is much faster than the rate of fire data, so it can cover a place with endless firepower. In addition, the mortar may be the only weapon that is not restricted by the resurrection protection. It can directly kill the resurrected players at the resurrection point.

Well good luck with that if they chillin in their spawn.

Yep, either make mortars usable for only certain amount of times or prefferably, just disallow them get ammunition from engineers.

I’ll advocate for their removal at the time till they receive an actual overhaul based on what is intended for it to do & not. I just came from a match with not 1 but 2 players mortaring with precision the capture point in invasion.

Removing it is not necessary. Its not problem of the mortars, its problem of engineers being OP as all hells.

Possible solutions for me would be:

  • Remove the ability to gain ammo from the egineer
  • Remove the ability to fire them from your spawn area
  • Add a cool down similar to artillery strike/ radio until you can use them (reloading, aiming and firing wouldnt be able)

I think the cooldown would be too much. And the ammo from engi might not even be an issue if they have to shoot from outside their spawn areas, except on maybe the new D-Day map as it is so massive that you cant really navigate it quickly enough to find a mortar user. On moscow though, if they have to be outside of their spawn they become vulnurable enough against snipers that they should die rather quickly.

Another option could be removing the engineer from the mortar squad, requiring teamwork to get the ammo replenishment instead

My top priority would be kicking them out from the spawns. Then they can get as much ammo as they want.
And I honestly dont mind that they become more vulnurable on Moscow/ overall.
Its basically the idea of this.
Also who knows how Moscow maps would be upon release

That’s what I am saying, but that it might not be enough on the D-Day map as it’s so large that they can still hide

Ah ok.
But I think if they give us vehicles there you could flank them.

which I’ve said before I’ve done on multiple occasions

if you’re elevated like on a roof, in a tower, or on the spawn screen, you can see where the mortar is firing from even if you can’t see the mortar directly. You can see the path of the shell leaving the mortar.

The only thing I have against them being forced out of spawns is that, especially at the start of invasion, a team can become pinned into its own spawn and they can’t get out to fire.

I just had a game at Normandy where the enemy hid behind their spawn and bombed the whole map with unlimited ammo mortar. I couldn’t kill them because spawn protection will kill my squad

sounds like a spawn protection problem

Well good luck with that if the map is uphill and you can never get above of the defending side on D-Day.

Otherwise spawn protection will keep you from getting to them, so the mortars should have to leave spawn.

If you’re pinned down a mortar is useless anyways so even if you could fire from inside spawn it wouldn’t do much. You need direct fire weapons for that.

honeslty i don’t get why people complain about mortars maybe it’s a me problemsince veryone calls em op

i do not get them either.

you need skills to use them. since you don’t have the dot on the map anymore. you just have a range, and somewhat, a direction. and than you have to be lucky that those mortars hits anyone.

so i think that they are fair?
