In particular, in comparison to their german counterparts on Normandy, they’re absolute garbage. The M2 has high recoil and low damage and it’s counterpart the FG42 has high damage and low recoil, with better ironsights (although this is somewhat subjective). The M1 carbines alternative is an SMG so there isn’t really a direct comparison, but the Gewehr 43 is something that takes its place and is better in almost every way imaginable. Yet again it’s higher damage and lower recoil.
IMO, M1/M2 carbine should be at least high enough damage to oneshot to chest within 30-40m, as of right now I would take a base springfield over the M1 carbine as a close range rifle, which honestly just seems wrong.
There’s a point where realism needs to bow to gameplay, this is one of them. There’s virtually zero reason to ever use either of these two weapons, whereas the Axis counterparts get amazing guns in the same place. Balance is already pretty off due to attemps at ‘realism’ across the board, this is just one strong example of it.
there is a reason to use it, since carbines are amazing at CQC and their low damage is personal defense weapons usually given to reserve troops and not front line duty since that was m1 garand’s job
Garand is far, far better in close range than the M1. It’s a oneshot to chest, compared to two, therefore its got an instant kill potential as opposed to hoping the enemies return shot will miss in order to win the trade. M1 is trash.
Exactly this, Garand is better at all ranges than the M1 carbine. It even has higher kill potential per mag (15 shots at 2 shots per kill vs 8 shots at 1 shot per kill). It’s absolute trash tier. It’s not far above a pistol.
yeah because you are so going to miss that .5 on the m1 carbine when compared to the garand since it’s 2 hit down for carbine and it has 15 rounds so 15/2 is 7.5, plus m1 carbine gets a nade launcher
A complaint with the M1 Carbine in real life was its lack of stopping power so it makes sense for it to not do much damage compared to the other rifles, what doesn’t make sense is how much recoil it has while also lacking in damage.
If youre a good player that 0.5 of a second is the difference between a killand death. This game measures ttk in microseconds 0.5 of second is absolutely massive. Hell 0.1 of a second is massive when comparing one hit weapons
Any gun in the game has the potential to wreck, the M2 and in particular the M1 are just far lower down in terms of power compared to virtually any other gun, and in particular their Axis counterparts. You can ‘wreck’ with a knife in this, or a pistol.
Fair enough, the mag size is virtually irrelevant, what isn’t irrelevant is needing a second shot to down/kill, in a game where oneshots are all over the place the extra shot is huge. Compare the M2 to the FG42 and you’ll cry over the stat differences.
Theyre both available to the same classes, so unless there’s some inherent stat changes between m2 and fg42 im unaware of (and they’d need to be sizable), its virtually irrelevant for game balance.
