Ok, it makes some sense. But if MGs are superior then why should I use other weapons? @116047982 just wrote that he likes diversity, that is going to be killed by this approach sooner or later.
Even at Normandy lvl 26 I also still use Kar98 but mostly grenade launcher version so I can also deal with larger packs of enemies. Bolt-action rifles aren’t going anywhere in this game because of their great damage, in fact they can still easily take out MG gunners at ranges who got too much into shooting.
Not all, but I still use it even though I can use different / superior guns.
Probably if people could fill entire 8 player squad only with MG42 they would do it with no doubt but thank God we can have only 3 gunners max. And also that’s not wrong. In original Panzergrenadier WW2 squad they had two MG42’s. Squad tactics revolved around those MG’s being the main firepower of squad, while riflemen with Kar’s had supportive role of taking out seperate enemies and cover MG gunners.
Yes but if both players are equal skill, guy with MG has the advantage (in squad mode) as he can kill whole squad with no problem not letting the other guy change the character to fight him back.
While if BA rifle guy kills MG guy, he has to spend much more time eliminating other soldiers and probably the enemy will manage to switch character and fight back.
I agree about history context. But still MGs are by far the best infantry weapons in the game in my opinion and render everything else useless.
I still use them too, but I’m quite happy if I get a new weapon, which is stronger then the last one. For example I often pair a Kar98K for long range with a Gewer 43 for medium and close range. The gun has its place, but nerfing mgs to an unrealistic point where you either have to ambush the enemy or loose for sure is not the way to go about it. Mgs are suposed to be strong against a lot of enemies. You need good positioning and a good shot and the mg is gone. It’s not always about raw power. War is game of chess not a slapcontest.
That’s the way this whole game is built. If i got rekt by some MG squad i spawn next with sniper squad and take them out by distance or spawn flamethrower squad for CQC, if i got rekt by tank I spawn with my tank or jump in plane. I don’t think that’s something that has to change. About walking while shooting heavier LMG’s - yes, maybethat could be improved. For example player automatically stops when he opens fire with MG42 or DPM. *but already when you’re walking and shooting every weapon player walk speed slows by quite a bit,so i doubt it will change something.

Meanwhile the other guy can just run and gun with MG with very little thinking. It’s the MG player that should think about positioning and arc of fire, meanwhile the other guy should think about flanking routes and concealment.
I just want that. Give some kind of drawback to MGs so they aren’t assault rifles and require thinking. (I don’t count lower movement speed as it can be negated by one cheap perk.)

In a game where 1 bullet kills you, you have to be an aimgod or smart to win gunfights. You should be able to ads for like 1 to 2 shots then go out of ads. That I’m fine with, but not letting you shoot unless you’re prone or something like this would be unrealistic. You can use mgs while standing quite effective. You just can’t hold down the trigger. Squees of single shots up to 3 round burst and they are more or less heavy assault rifles you barely have to reload.
In other words: if he is bad and you are good, you win.

You still will be able to shoot but not aim. I guess it’s fair deal (especially that for example MG42 can be held only by hand on the barrel cover if you want to aim).

True. You can hold the barrelcover on the mg 42. It is also part of the quickchange mechnism of the barrel so you can do that easily without burning yourself. Anything further then 50m you should struggle after 1 to 3 shots while standing or crouching, but you can still do it.

There was somebody that proposed that ADS on MGs would use up “focus stamina” (this shift thing when you aim). So maybe this?
Maybe a strength bar. It’s fucking exhausting to aim a mg while standing. They are heavy especialy the old ones.

what i can say is game becomes super boing and easy once you can play with more than 6 gunner in a single match.
this is exactly what is happening to me. my every square has like 2-3 gunners and i spawn mostly with gunners. i don’t know how skilled my opponent is but one thing Im sure is game is too easy right now. this wasn’t before when i had semi auto. im killing everyone without even aiming properly. lmg doesn’t even have that much of recoil in first place. and secondly, youre fighting against semi-auto and boltaction. smg literally is garbage against lmg.
also what i heard is recoil in the game isn’t a recoil rather muzzle rise. therefore lmg being heavy has no recoil where as pistol and carbine are having higher recoil.
thefore removing ads for lmg while standing and crouching is best way to balance. i don’t think even screen shake would balance them actually…
using stamina bar for ads could solve the problme by some means but still would be op.
