There are too many Thompsons which perform very simmilar to each other, this makes the US techtree pretty confusing.
We should seriously consider not only removing some duplicates and turning them into legacy weapons - but we should also buff the lineup in general, Thompsons seem a bit underwhelming for where they sit in each BR.
So… here is how I would make the Thompson progression fun and each type useful.
First thing said, I dare to say that maybe even 3 total regular unlock Thompsons are enough. So lets look at what versions we have right now:
-
M1A1 Thompson BR3
pretty much the standard version, shoots a bit slower than its next unlock. -
M1928A1 Thompson BR3
Surprisingly simmilar to the first version, has a muzzle break, but doesn’t seem to really help all that much with recoil. -
M1 Thompson BR4
Noticable fast rate of fire - though overall still on the same level of accuracy that the other Thompsons have. -
Thompson M21/28 (Box Magazine) BR4
The mafia frontal grip Thompson, with the excellent iron sights. Has very good horizontal recoil, though vertical recoil is bigger for what ever reason… still, the Grip seems to give noticable dispersion bonus. -
M1928A1 Thompson 50 BR5
50 round version of the BR3 Thompson, yet also having surprisingly less horizontal recoil than its 30 round version…
Also we have:
-
Premium M1928A1 Thompson 100 BR5
Yet again the same BR3 Thompson - but with again not only with a 100 round mag this time, but also weirdly enough again a very different recoil performance. -
Thompson .30 Cal SMG BR3
Thompson with 20 round mag - but firing the bit longer range M1 Carbine round. Performs like a weaker M2 Carbine - but with the very nice Mafia Thompson sights. -
BSA Thompson BR2
Gold order version with 20 round mag and the nice Mafia Thompson sights. -
Legacy Premium Thompson M1928 USMC BR2
20 round Mafia Grip and sight version. Pretty strong for BR2, not gonna lie. -
That weird Thompson with these weird 25 round double mags - cant find data for those since I don’t even remember its name, shame on me.
Sooo… what thats 10 Thompson versions I can think of. Crazy amount of Thompsons right?
Now I think, its cool to have multiple event and gold order Thompsons, but 5 in the tech tree seems over the top - especially since they all seem very comparable besides the frontal grip giving dispersion bonus and the Drum mag being an obvious advantage.
So here is how I would make the US Thompson line up more interesting:
-
There should be a BR2 20round Thompson
If we would change the first unlock M1A1 into a 20 round Thompson it would fit well into BR2 -
The BR3 Thompson should be the M1 version which is right now a BR4 weapon, so that it actually right off the batch feels like a real improvement over the first Thompson.
-
Then the BR4 Thompson should actually be the now BR5 50 Round Drum Thompson, yes it has the drum, but its still a bit weak in BR5 compared to STGs, Fedorov and FGs, especially however since a 100 Drum Thompson exists.
-
And finally the real BR5 Thompson should be the full Tommy gun version - better dispersion with the grip, 50 round drum and excellent sights.
