You are not going to do much sniping with how inaccurate it is at distances.
However, it outperforms scoped g43 in mid range (once you get used on its way too good sights).
To be honest, I still prefer scoped g43 solely because it is usable on all ranges, but if you are not up to long range sniping and be useful as gunner in close range as well, then this is weapon for you.
The Gewehr auto sniper rifle does not deliver in accuracy or distance. On the practice range its great. In game you can forget that grouping. You will be lucky to hit 3 out of 10. The aiming is all over the place you can try modifying aiming high aiming low or centered but the results will vary with every round fired. I usually fire 2 or 3 rounds per kill before I find the kill shot. Only thing it has going for it is rate of fire and over a short distance it can be useful and the aiming is somewhat ok. This is how it performs for me in game.

Hmm, yes, accurate as hell. This is the dispersion of a 5 star sniper FG 42 II:
From 90 meters, if you go for a headshot, you have a greater chance of alarming the enemy soldier about your position than killing him. At 200m, don’t even dream about hitting where you aimed. And using a stock AVS-36 (3 out of 6 stars) you can land a perfect headshot at 200-300m (basically as long as you can identify the target).
Btw, sniper Gewehr 43 does not have problem with dispersion either, and even the normal Gewehr 43 for infantry has 2x smaller dispersion than the sniper FG 42 II:
