Is Pz IV H a noticeable improvement from J?

I haven’t reached H yet so I was wondering how much of an improvement is Ausf H over Ausf J?
I know that H still has the electric turret so I’m guessing the turret traverse will be higher, but just how much higher?

Personally I was really disappointed with Ausf J and after playing a couple of matches in it, switched back to Panzer III, which really is a bummer as I adore the looks of Pz IV.

I just couldn’t find any reason to give up the faster turret traverse of Pz III as I don’t find the gun or armor of Pz IV to be any better. The L/48 gun didn’t introduce any new weak spots in enemy tanks, which really surprised me. All the target tanks in the practice area have exactly the same weak spots and my (admittedly very limited) testing didn’t show any difference in the effect of both guns.

Maybe I’m missing something? If so, please educate me =D I’d be very happy to get a reason to drive my Pz IV.

Aufs H has slightly better protection against Bazookas and better turret traverse.

This could be a bug

same as pzIII, i have two tank squad now, and i wont go pzIVH unless american drive jumbo out.
H is a Great improvement from J as it finnally gain ability to chase infatry with MG well.
But, the reload still trash and can turret armor is still too thin, even m5 can easily pen the ring or turret back to stuck your whole gun, then u totally doomed. PzIII is so well armored in this case.
Only drive this as a mobile ATgun to play a jumbo killer. Never use this on light tanks.

Thanks for the answer. For me that’s light at the end of the tunnel as I like the Pz IV so much that when I unlock Ausf H, I’ll prefer it over the Pz III even if it performs just slightly worse =D

as a PZ IV H user from almost 1 month,

i can say that PZ IV H is an improvement compared to the J.

both models are broken in terms of amor value ( pretty much like 70% of the tanks models in this game ).

but just like @73507743 said, it has better turret traverse, good protection against piats. and that’s basically it.

one thing that is noticable, is that you need lots of gears to upgrade it.

we are talking about, 20/25 silver orders just to fully upgrade the PZ IV H. but in my opinion, it’s worthed.

well, i somewhat understand, but once you face shermans and jumbos, your PZ III it’s next to being useless. and with the upcoming PZ III M, its not going to be any different.

as such, you are somewhat stricked to use the PZ IV J or the H.
( or also the puma, but unless you are gonna play for the whole match behind covers and actually conceil it properly instead of charing, you could use the puma as well. not viable in urban maps though. if not upgraded to level 4 of course )

it’s all about upgrades. but generally, the PZ III has a better turret speed because of it’s shape.

that’s because of the lovely broken models we have.

don’t worry, sometimes M5s can survive from PZ IV H direct hit. ( just like any puma against any tank… )

as said before, it’s good as default, and can become quite powerfull when angled. in order to make it the ultimate tank, you could upgrade it. ( it’s a must need if you don’t like the initial turrett traverse speed. after all, it’s a tank. and you should not charge expecting to be a tiger ).

but yeah, it does the job better than any other tank.

this one is hard to answer.

but, having an excellent traverse speed as a PZ III it’s not going to do much against shermans and jumbos. as such, as said above, the PZ IV H it’s not bad, but not good either( in terms of turrett speed ). you will need to upgrade it.
but to the very least, you will be able to properly face enemy medium and heavier tanks.

I’ve been sitting on my silver orders for the sole purpose of upgrading my Pz IV and your answers prove that it’s the right thing for me to do. Hopefully I have restocked them by the time Battle for Berlin comes out and I gain access to <3 Panther <3 =D

nope, glad to help as i can.

from a technical aspect, both PZ IV are good ( if upgraded ). so that you have a proper tank before the panther will be introduced.

than, you will start saving enough orders for the panther using the upgraded PZ IV ( J / H ).

well, it has been announced panthers over normandy as well.

otherwise, berlin campaign can wait, in the meanwhile, we can farm some silver orders for both campaigns and upcoming content.

personally speaking… i don’t think it’s a good idea.

yeah sure… bring a panther to deal with the Jumbo… but how in the world M24s, M5s, M8s and Shermans are going to deal with it, if the player using the panther can just sit in the spawn almost untouched, and unseen. after all, it’s not hard to reposition it self and avoid planes?

i don’t know… this game it’s kinda making me wish for a PVE gamemode with little progression and experience. for than ditch the multiplayer all of a sudden.

a bit sad.

Exactly my thoughts. Instead of making all vehicles offer different playstyles but stay balanced towards each other devs go into better and better tanks direction. What’s the point of ever bringing Pz III in Normandy after unlocking the Panther? Those tanks will just be thrown into trash can as soon as better ones will be unlocked. And of course they will have problems with the high level tanks.
