In game AT guns have long been used as alternative anti-infantry cannons. And while yes this was the case during the war, there was a weapon that was specifically designed for that role
Infantry Support Guns can be added as the true anti-infantry cannon. They could also remove the HE rounds from AT guns which helps to keep these roles distinct and adds more dynamics to battles. If you want to fight vehicles build an AT gun, want a good HE lobber, build an Infantry Support Gun.

Yes, I want the derp guns.
Personally I’d give them to mortar squad as they they are “mini howitzers” and seem to fit this squad’s role.

Ehhhh, instead it’s more fitting for Mortar squads to get Heavy Mortars

Then we would need to give them 120mm mortars. And at this point it’s basically artylery strike level of firepower (probabably higher).
Also it would give mortar squads a more direct role in the combat (you need los to use an infantry gun) than just staying in the back in a hole in the ground with even bigger mortar.
