A discussion in another thread brought up the point that there’s a quite noticeable inconsistency in the standard ammo supply across different models of MGs.
The most obvious discrepancy is between belt fed MGs like the RD44 or the Browning 1916, that get a default supply of 200 rounds (100/100), and others like MG42 or BAR, whose default supply is half as much (50/50 or 20/80).
Therefore, the suggestion here is that ALL MGs of all nations get their minimum ammo supply raised to 150 rounds or so, to decrease such discrepancy.
Ammunition scarcity is one of the few balancing factors that works, in that it keeps players from just holding the trigger down the whole game, and forces them to think at least a little tactically about their ammo consumption.
I personally like having to work around that limitation, and I’d rather they keep default ammo as low as reasonable
Every machine gun should be able to fulfill its function and that is to conduct cover fire. You need to have enough ammo for that. But unfortunately, the machine guns in this game are undersized, because you need to use your brain to destroy them, and many players lack that. DF should choose what type of player he wants to make a game for. Whether he wants to create a game for experienced players who want a sophisticated game where you can play multiple game styles, or they want to create a simple infantry game for players who are constantly crying nerf this nerf that. If they want the first type of player, they should upgrade the machine guns and return the game to how it was before they nerfed everything. Weak players will leave, but new players will come who like a challenge. If they continue to nerf everything and keep simplifying the game, players who like the challenge will leave and players who will cry nerf this nerf that will come.
Literally nobody would use ammo bag on BARs if they would have 200 ammo by default. There’s no way you will be consistently surviving that long do deplete 400 rounds with BARs, lol.
Or some unique class type of soldier for MG and AT squads called “ammo carrier”.
As long as he lives and is near you, you would have binus ammo for your weapon.
Plus he could gave you some bonus stats like faster reload etc.
But how do you get the ammo bearer AI to stay within the proximity? I somehow end up outpacing my whole squad when searching for flanking routes to build rally points.
because Ive been playing Hell divers 2, Team weapons are excellent. One person can reload while the other shoots, which hugely boosts your overall fire rate (minimal downtime) and ammo capacity (depending on back packs)
could probably be an item? replaces backpack? MG ammo belts/crates? You would put it on a squad AI that wasnt a Machinegunner
