I'm scared

I’m coming from a couple of Enlisted days where, across different factions and for various reasons (ranging from probably unbalanced teams to terminal skill issues of mine), I’ve been pretty much getting slapped at 360°.

As such, I’m starting to look at the upcoming merge with gloomy omens.

I won’t lie nor hide behind excuses, I’m genuinely afraid that getting consistently more populated matches may WORSEN my game experience instead of improving it.

I’m afraid, above all, that full player matches may raise the bar to a standard I can’t keep up with, or enjoy, anymore.

I’m afraid to end up thrown more often than not in matches full of players that are too much stronger than me, on both sides, thus making me a punching bag for the enemy team and a burden for mine.

And I’m fully aware there’s very little or nothing at all that the game could do to prevent that. It would be 100% on my shoulders. Just venting that out.

In another note, I’m also afraid to see campaign-specific playerbase imbalances become nationwide playerbase imbalances, instead of leveling out each other.

We have to wait to see how this will unfold.

Did you consider group up with few other players? It could be more comfortable for you. You could actually rely on your teammates.

be prepared the merge will consolidate the playerbase, no more/very small quantity of bots will remain in games.

cheesy tactics and meta gaming will be prevalent, prepare to sweat.

personally i like it, having a hard fight imo is better than shooting flocks of bots, but you also need a well coordinated team.

I get what you mean, playing in a squad would probably improve my winrate…

But unfortunately, no teammate can improve my own situational awareness, reflexes and aim.

Eh, unfortunately, most of the times, I prefer the opposite.

well there is always custom games

there are roles you can play where you don’t need reflexes and aim.

Situational awareness you can learn or minimize.

Id suggest

  • Radio squad with a sniper attached. (master smoke, perhaps after they buff it  )
  • Engineer squad
  • Mortar
  • tank
  • plane

They must! Believe!

Is really a problem, if your allies, your enemy or both are stronger than you, just chill

  • build something
  • kill plane with the AA
  • kill tank with AT
  • stay behind and try to kill someone
  • drive a veichle and try to do something

Play withaut care to win or lose, there is no point to stress about this

And

If both enemy and allies are stronger like you enjoi a balanced battle

welcome to the club.

we’re on the same boat.

at least we have customs.

( which speaking of, James hinted to some upgrades and improvements over the custom matches, but still we know nothing about it )

otherwise, we shouldn’t be really that far from pves… right?
( yes we are ).

I realized I might really enjoy a bit of pve myself. I do like playing high lvl, very balanced matches… With a limit. 1 or 2 per day maximum, because those are NOT relaxing in anyway, they make me try hard and pump adrenaline.

I need more casual stuff too…

I truly hope customs will be revamped… But we haven’t had the slightest news about them in months, like they (devs) “forgot” about them or merely said they’d rework them to shut those of us who are against battle rating and the resulting loss of campaign originality, variety in matches, etc.

Devs should make 10 players + 10 bots official feature, not a hidden mechanic.
So you have leaderboard with 10 players, and 10 more squads, controlled by bots (not displayed on scoreboard)

If the merge is going to be 24/7 Normandy/Berlin sweatfests then they failed to make a relaxing game right there. Sure I have been at like 30 min matches sometimes but there are such matches that are very sweaty that after the match, that’s enough sweating for me today.

Honestly it will end up like war thunder, and i mean it in a bad way.

Over there i used to play somewhere in the br 4-6 range, because the higher ranks are just too much.

Here it will be the same. Full player lobbies at higher level will be incredibly sweaty and stressful.

The ratio of Carry type players (sweats if you must) to average players is pretty low. I doubt it will be much different. 1 or 2 hard carries per game.

War thunder High tier doesn’t have alot of carrys/sweats…if anything, there’s more nubs at high tier.

While we do not believe that this merge will solve all the problems facing the game, it is certainly a first step.
They will make additional fixes as needed, I will be patient and wait for the game to be good.

dont worry, the BR system will create balanced games, especially on mid and high tier.
low level will be the most realistic, but also filled with new players who dont build rallies so it will be also a running simulator, since DF still doesnt understand or show intent to solve that particular issue.

It won’t, thought. Br will never create a balanced match, because vets like me will be able to go starter br to destroy newcomers at will.

Imagine a 4 stack of vets in newcomers lobbies.

Br will only give the impression that it’s fair, while in truth isn’t really:

  • ppl in stacks will still dominate
  • veterans will still destroy newcomers
  • Same veterans will use complete loadouts, multiple squads, with everything maximum star but low br (if they wish).
  • newcomers will cry about veterans hacking as usual.

It’s Warthunder in a nutshell.

Battlefield series had a standard for measuring player skill called SPM (Score Per Minute). It is literally a statistic that shows how much a person scores on average per minute.
User servers ranked by SPM provided a very good gaming experience.
It would be nice if this game had a matching system based on SPM as well as BR, but it is questionable whether there is enough of a player base to rank players in detail to make matching viable.

It should be noted that BR is not intended to divide players according to player skill.
It just makes weapons fairer.
I originally understood that this was a measure introduced to softly limit the weapons available per map and to protect HA to some extent, but from what ppl have told me, the purpose of introducing it seems to have changed at some point.
This seems to me to take away a unique part of the game - the asymmetry…
But, well, there are serious playerbase issues, so it’s a change that has to be made. We are going to see how it works out.
