Idea for Finnish Assault Engineers 🇫🇮

They can get the Lahti AL-43 as their main weapon.

This winter clothing would look dope as well.

Would be cool to have a winter war campaign…to bad this is a Russian game and nobody over there wants to be reminded of how bad Finland stomped that ass.

Lol that’s some high grade copium

Finland sued for peace, lost more land than originally demanded by USSR, allowed a Soviet naval base at Hanko, etc. + 300 million USD in reparations in 1944

Nice stomping you got there bud

And yeah as a Russian, winter war would be awesome to see.

In fact, with a “Finland” map something like BR 1 could work as Winter war and BR 2-5 as continuation war.

Unfortunately, Puma in 1939 at Mannerheim line and ASs-44 storming Helsinki is what we would get in reality.

According to Nikita Khrushchev, 1.5 million men were sent to Finland and one million of them were killed, while 1,000 aircraft, 2,300 tanks and armored cars and an enormous amount of other war materials were lost. Finland’s losses were limited to 25,904 dead or missing and 43,557 wounded.

The end state Finland, a disproportionally smaller sized and populated nation state, defended its national boarders from the Soviet Union and was not absorbed into her sphere of influence. Not even partially; the soviets gained nothing. Russia’s loss wasn’t just decisive…it was crushing. The ambitions of winning wars against mighty Finland, as It was in Peter the great’s time, would never again return to Russia and probably never will again.

There literally is no pyrrhic outlook where there was any positive yield for the soviet war in Finland. Their equipment and resources would have been allocated to greater effect if they were held in reserve. Albeit, that is a Monday morning quarterback perspective

Lmao

Read the Moscow peace treaty where the Finnish government accepts its loss and pledges to give stuff to USSR.

Cute small country mental gymnastics: “we were not exterminated so we won”

Well defended Karelia sure

Would love to defend tuomionkirkko from the russians even if inaccurate

Also they could make premium squad of finnish ss batallion “panttipataljoona”

And maybe even finnish tanker squad with stug 3 or t26e

Staff sergeant Brotells stug 3 scored 11 russian tanks during its service. His tank (ps 531-10)was nicknamed “bubi” and it could make great gold order vehicle

I’m closing with this: The metics on who decisively won this conflict speak for themselves and are well documented. Refer to Dr. Paul Wolfowitz on zero sum game theory. Finland not only performed better and suffered less but long term gained more by not being absorbed into the Soviet sphere of influence. The soviets exceptionally poor performance was noted by the axis and emboldened their invasion plans…millions would go on to die early on do to poor manning and millions more until the end of World War Two.

Russia doing Russian things and getting themselves into costly Ideological wars against laughably smaller nation states while trying to find any salvable way of to declare themselves the victor even when metrics disproportionally tilt against them is not a new thing. It literally happens more often than you think. You don’t have to look to hard to find examples.

There wasnt much else to do at that point. I wouldnt call finlands battle against soviets crushing as that largely underestimates the red army but we managed to hold off numerically superior country for more than 3 months and ended up losing roughly 10% of our land. I think that is an great achievement by its own.

Also we shouldnt forget continuation war where finland tried to regain some of the lost territory

Kinda like ukraine now. Russia has always been known to be notoriously bad at playing war games IRL…they do eventually learn though. If anyone wants a good laugh listen to this baltic navy story. https://youtu.be/5jDbJbCuKl4?si=qb_toHB_vglXKwIJ

Indeed.
And it was the USSR.
Finland did not “win” by any stretch of the imagination.

Now regarding your other points, nobody is denying that USSR did a mega oopsie trying to bully the small Finland by underestimating everything, and were probably happy to sign the peace treaty when the Finns sued for peace as well.

But that doesn’t change the fact that out of 100 historians you ask 100 will tell you USSR win Winter war, simply because it gained stuff and Finland lost stuff.

Exactly that.
Finland performed exceptionally well.
And probably got the best result out of the war they could get.

But they still “lost winter war”.

Doesnt really require imagination at all.
Winland fought to keep its independency and kept it.
Sovjets were to conquer entire country and ended up just enough land to burry theyr dead.

Read the Moscow peace treaty and who gives stuff to who.

Does it mention winland granting its independency?
Didnt think so.

Wars aren’t won and lost based on one of the sides losing its independency lol

Read the Treaty of Moscow who signs off as the loser and agrees to cession of Karelia & to the construction of a Soviet naval base on Hanko

I wonder which other genius country in history “wins” a war by losing territory and sueing for peace

No, wars are often won by achieving the goals. Which only one faction on this war did and it wasnt ussr.

Well, winland has been now happiest country of the world for several years.
I doubt it would be the case if it ever was part of USSR.

So, yea you gained just enough land to burry your dead, absolutely 0 strategical value was gained.
Got humiliated by a tiny nation, but you walked away with paper saying you won the war with 0 gain.

Tell me more about your victory.

Be big bully ussr, decide that we will raid that old grandmas log cabin, proceed → get your ass beaten by the grandma → while running away steal a garden gnome and yell how you won.

“wE woN”

that kinda the saved the USSR though.
Have the western world considered it a real threat then there wouldn´t have been lend-lease and Nazi Germany would have prepared much better.

I mean if you actually look at the plans of Barbarossa, you will see how unrealistic and overly optimistic they were as if the same generals that planned it didnt fight the Russians less than 30 years ago.
