I believe the game should lean towards realism: part 2

This is an updated list of suggestions to improve Enlisted realism as well as more proof.

The game is already geared towards a war simulator filled with arcade elements but i believe this game would function and play better with more realism.

Now before i get berated by people for calling this a war simulator, let me prove it to you:

Enlisted has a delay in control imput just like Isonzo and Insurgency.

A magazine system that reuses magazines and tracks how much ammo is in each magazine.

A realistic Tank combat system based on armor penetration instead of stupid hitpoints.

First person only cameras, even in vehicles.

Relatively Realistic Weapon placement, ignor the MG-42 in Moscow.

And the Squad system Enlisted is known for, ignore the small size.

But we should move towards more realistic elements such as:

A Damage based on cartridge and barrel length.

NO BULLET DEVIATION!!! IT IS THE MOST INFURIATING THING EVER, ITS NOT REALISTIC AND CAUSES CANCER!!!

A weight system like cuisine royale, matter of a fact add the weapons real weight to the game.

Self loading rifles should be loaded with clips and loose rounds, they were almost never issued spare magazines in real life (this can balance them instead of giving them unrealistic recoil.

Slower Aiming and movement based on weight, this can balance the PPD-34/38, PPD-40, and PPSh-41 instead of giving it unrealistic recoil since those Submachine guns weigh a lot and the PPSh-41 Also has a muzzle brake.

Reduce recoil on Submachine Guns, find a more realistic way to balance them (i have an idea)
Remove the zoom from aiming guns unless they yhave a scope)

Lower recoil on Machine Guns (balance them with a weight system)

Reduced damage fall-off with Submachine Guns. (pistol cartridges carry their energy over 100 meters)

Working features on Guns wike the Telescoping Bolt assembly on the MP-38, MP-40, MP-41, Erma EMP-35, PP Shpitalniy 1940, and Schmeisser M.K.36 III, the Telescoping Bolt assembly greatly reduces recoil by stopping the bolt from hitting the back of the receiver.

Muzzle Brakes should actually work: They work by expelling gasses vertically and horizontaly to push the gun against its recoil, guns like the SVT-40 and PPSh-41 in real life are extremely controlable because of this.

Remove Aim assist, in Isonzo bolt action rifles are fun to use because you have to actually aim at the enemy to kill them instead of holding ADS and firing next to the enemy to kill them.

the main reason why I stopped playing the game “Squad”, no FOV lower than 90 and basically no zoom on your guns, I can’t see any targets past 30 Meters anymore, while you can still overcome this by having a huge 4k Monitor. I like the zoom in this game, maybe its a bit too much at points, but in general I dont think it breaks the game.

These are not what needs to be added. The bullet deviation does add realism and most importantly it seems like you should go play something like Tarkov if you want realistic weapons.

The reality is that it can only focus on realism to a degree, given that respawning is a thing. This leads to tactics that would not be found in the real world. A LOT of the game has to account for that aspect alone, not to mention other issues.

Keep in mind, that this game supports crossplay - this means PC players can fight with and against consoles like playstation and xbox. Viva la dirt leadue basically… summed up the issue:

So, I am not sure if this won’t… put console users into a disadvantage. Similarly with aim assist, that You mention later.

I am not so certain on this one as well… Folks who have big monitors might be okay, but for those playing on the more narrow… hm…

As for everything else - I more or less agree.

While it’s a terrible suggestion it’s not without reason, while many of these things can improve the game many may also change the game entirely.
Change can be good or bad, this game is in alpha so it is intended to change. However at some point these changes can make the game a completely different game than what is was, then will it truly be Enlisted?
What I’m trying to say is that these can be good but may not be what’s needed or good for the game. Suggestions are good to a degree and sometimes you’re just suggesting your favorite things from a different game.
I’ve done that before and it’s an idea, but everyone still has the right to say “go play that game if you love it so much, but it doesn’t belong here”.

Agree with most things except removing zoom, it’s much easier to see things in real life than it is in games so zoom kind of helps that

I would definitely prefer that were more realistic elements to the game, but I think one of the biggest problems that you’re going to have if you want to go down the realism track is that at least half of the guns that are in the game that the infantry are using are completely unrealistic from a historical standpoint most of them never saw any action at all or any service whatsoever or were only built in prototype form.

It would also mean removing things like the stupid ridiculous fantastically fantasy esq TNT bundle, or making it so that antitank mines didn’t actually kill tanks that they would just track them, that things like bazooka rounds would bounce more than they would actually penetrate, that rockets from aircraft weren’t really able to kill tanks, that bombs from aircraft weren’t really able to kill tanks very effectively, mortar rounds would stop killing tanks, all of these things would be things that I would like to see in the game but right now the game is so far from being realistic and so many ways that I don’t know that they could actually ever get there.

It doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t like to see baby steps being taken to that end I think it would improve the game at least it would improve my experience with the game.

Well. We still would like to kill tanks.

Two things before I read all of that:

  1. Please, use bullet points - it makes a post like this so much easier to read.

I’ve played alot of Isonzo recently and i like thsts theres no zoom unless you have a scope.

So, what I think of every point:

  1. Yes, but bolt actions should still deal more damage because while this game should be realistic, some things still must be done for balance.

  2. Kinda - yes, because bullet deviation is one of the dumbest mechanics in gaming. No, because there is some realism in this department that should be represented - some guns are more accurate than others. So bullet deviation yes, but scaled down to a realistic amount.

  3. Yes.

  4. I’d say no to this one - I don’t know how it was with the SVT-40, but the G43 was issued with two pouches: a Kar98k pouch and a G43 pouch, so 2 spare magazines and 3 stripper clip reloads.
    And I don’t think we should go to that extend of realism, especially that we have ammo pouches as an accessory and the real soldier’s loadout was predetermined.

  5. Yes - weapons should have inertia. Plus it’s another way to balance drum magazines.

  6. I’d say no here - they already have pretty low recoil, at least those that should have low recoil.

  7. Kinda - in general MGs have good recoil stats, but I’d say there are two exceptions: the horizontal recoil of those MGs that have that stat really high should be lowered as MG 13, MG 34 and MG 42 didn’t jump around that much, it was more of a push (quite a strong one, but still a consistent push), and all of the BAR variants should have higher recoil as they weren’t that controllable (especially for the M1918A2 and wz. 28 which are incredibly controllable in Enlisted).

  8. Yes, just simply yes.

  9. I’ll address this point separately as there’s a lot to unpack here.

  10. I’m quite sure this is already represented in the game - PPSh-41 is very controllable, Thompson variants with the Cutts compensator have less muzzle climb than those without and so on.

  11. If bolt action guns indeed use separate larger hitboxes or other form of aim assist, then yes, it should be dropped.

And now about the 9th point, since there’s a bit of technical detail to clarify there:
So, the feature of the MP 38, MP 40, MP 41, EMP 35, PPSh-40, and Schmeisser MK 36 III that you meant by telescoping bolt is a telescoping recoil spring assembly.
And while the recoil of the MP 38, MP 40 MP 41 and EMP is indeed quite low, it’s comparable to other designs with similar rate of fire and without the telescoping spring cover, like the MP 28 or Solothurn S1-100.
Also, this feature doesn’t prevent the bolt from slamming into the end of the receiver, it just encloses the recoil spring and makes it a lot more resistant to sand, mud and other fouling.

Realism yes, but I’d like increased immersion. I really enjoy the way tanks and planes handle, you feel like you’re in a heavy machine a not a go-kart but at the same time it’s not cumbersome to the point of making them not fun for more casual player - good balance.

The infantry play feels off - you don’t really feel the weight of the soldier and your equipment, it’s too close to COD, and I’d like it to gravitate a bit more towards something like ARMA. Stiff animations don’t help.

In fact, I don’t think Enlisted’s vehicle manipulation is a big problem for the time being. When you drive a tank, you really feel that you are operating a heavy machine rather than an easy off-road toy (the only regret is that the tank is not fired from the center of the sight glass, resulting in your armor piercing hitting the street light instead of the T34 in the rear),
I am curious because civilians are not allowed to hold guns in my country. I am embarrassed to say that I have never touched real guns in reality, so I do not know whether a real soldier in WW2 can bend down and shoot with a sight as effectively as in the game with a LMG like B.A.R. or a MG42 (they are said to weigh about 10KG in the introduction)

I mean, there is that hit indicator (those three lines that are normally grey but turn red, yellow or green when you aim at the enemy tank depending on the penetration probability), and it shows where the gun is aimed. So situations like that can be avoided.

Sure. With the BAR it’s a bit easier as it has the foregrip and is a bit lighter (but still quite heavy), but even with the MG 42 it’s possible when you grip it by the bipod or the barrel shroud.
