The latest update brought changes to artillery strikes. The changes were mostly good (though they excessively nerfed artillery), except for the part where Artillery can no longer be activated during the first minute of the battle - because the opening stages of battles were the MAIN moment artillery was called!
One thing that wasn’t changed though, but which is much needed to fix artillery in game, is the ability of bots to take cover from artillery strikes in the squads mode. Seriously, I had games where I told my squad to get into a building and go to prone to take cover from an artillery strike. Instead, they all went prone outside the building and were annihilated.
But anyway, with the nerfs - but even before them - artillery is just not as deadly as it was in real life - where it was the main source of infantry casualties during ww2. Compared to tanks and bomber planes in game, artillery is actually very weak - it’s very easy to get over 100 kills with bomber planes and tanks, but not with artillery, and that shouldn’t be the case. Something that could balance that out would be more diverse types of strikes, such as bigger strikes, barrages, katyushas, etc., that one could unlock upon reaching further levels. It should be stressed that artillery contributed to over half of the infantry casualties in world war 2. Check the casualty and ammunition usage figures for artillery (like here: Artillery Combat in World War 1 - YouTube), you will be impressed.
It just doesn’t make sense for the biggest infantry-killer of WW2 to be significantly weaker than tanks and planes. Especially in modes such as invasion in squads, artillery should contribute to a significant share of the kills. I hope this is fixed and artillery gets better and more historically-accurately represented in game, as the realistic artillery strikes were one of the main things I liked about this game.
The people complaining and crying that they get killed by artillery a lot just don’t understand that this is how it is supposed to be. Artillery should be their main enemy, the main weapon of the enemy team. It should suppress certain areas and induce people to take cover - and if they did take cover instead of mindless rushing, they wouldn’t die and complain as much that they did. Fix the bots AI not taking proper cover (rather than the artillery power) and then you have something close to artillery being proper represented in the game.
I disagree with everything you said and you should learn to play better. This is enlisted, it isnt war thunder, it isnt sky thunder it isnt artillery sim, it’s enlisted. The main point of this whole game is infantry warfare. Anything outside of small arms engagements should be operating in a support function, not overshadowing the entire game creating a shallow meta that people run into the ground and cause waves of people to quit.
IDK how so many people are upset, using arty isn’t even fun or requires any skill. At least in HLL you get to range your howitzer.
Artillery is also far far quicker and easier to use in-game than IRL.
Realistic artillery would be worse than what we have now because as soon as it’s time to fire for effect the enemy team has long moved.
Lmao I was using that one earlier today before the patch hit.
We’re playing a small unit with a massive amount of armor, air, and artillery support relative to the amount of infantry on the ground.
If you’re going to turn artillery into something like a grenade throw, you’d better do away with it altogether. Air force too. Let infantry run back and forth across the map and ‘battle heroes’ (10 kills, 20 deaths) will be happy. Why should there be any tactics? It’s too complicated. Run and shoot!
Got regimental batteries going cyclic on 105s because 50 dudes ran into another platoon and immediately started screaming into the radio BROKEN ARROW, BROKEN ARROW!!!
Maybe there’s a modern day ammo shortage but if we requested 20 different salvos from 155s every time we took contact we’d probably have our officers get relieved of command.
Its still not a grenade throw, theres still no skill involved to calling in arty. Its a support feature, stop trying to act like this game is Arty Simulator '21. This game is centered around infantry, not explosives. And btw, there was no tactics involved in clicking on the map every 48 seconds. Try using your brain before making comments like your first one.
Wait but why would it be a great idea at all for arty to be callable at the beginning of the match? Before this update, the meta was always to just call in arty at the beginning bc you knew exactly where the enemy team was going to push each time. Now there’s actually some breathing room where the infantry can actually push in and get situated. Leading to more infantry engagements which is what the game is about. Idk arguably this is much more fun than just brainlessly calling in arty at the beginning of the match and following that meta.
The fact that arty was so lethal in WW2 irl doesn’t really justify your wants for arty to be OP again. The old system was just blantantly abused and was ruining the game for many. These changes actually bring the focus back to actual infantry combat and arguably makes things much more fun
edit: although maybe they could just bump up the damage of arty and the radius of it just a tad. But that’s about it tbh. Other than that it’s fine where it is rn.
Bots “try” to move outside of circle, like many arty enjoyers would tell us.
Issue is the circle is to small, so bots die standing just outside it, or try to leave perfectly good cover straight into arty.
didn’t bother reading rainbowmans comments after just first line, dude just tone it down.
nothing more infuriating than seeing someone trying to school someone else but are just talking out of their ass
I am surprised, but the devs knocked it out of the park with this update. I agree with every single change to artillery, except maybe making the first few impacts weaker (unnecessary and unrealistic, but eh, no big deal). I still use artillery and can get good results with it. Less spam from other players means that I get a larger share from shelling objectives and other hotspots.
