Give us artillery, SPG with option to use like Mortar with min range

All tanks and artillery has always needed direct fire, well how about using what Big Action has already coded for SPG and Rocket vehicles, let them be used as artillery.

Yes it would mean, greyzone, but rocket tanks are not exactly hard to kill, neither would SPGs be either.

Be nice to have some indirect artillery and from a dev / effort perspective, it wouldn’t take too long as Big Action modder @tommyZZM could share his code I’m sure…

Feel free to discuss below, pro and cons, not just map too small please!

I don’t like the concept of “campers is throwing poops at you from behind the hill” while you’re trying to play actively. There’s literally no way to counter it. You can just hide. Or completely change playstyle, take a plane and go kill him before doing anything else.

It’s just extremely lame concept in literally every game. I still have PTSD from WOT.

I think if indirect fire is to be added, it would also require an intelligence exchange system between players, which would both limit the effectiveness of artillery and add deeper gameplay.
For example, in HLL it would usually be: Scout Squad → Commander → Artillery Officer → Artillery Crew

But based on my understanding of DF, they will definitely think that these mechanisms are too complicated for players, and I really can’t see their interest in large battlefields.

Even in the current game when playing as mortar, I have not met any stranger teammate who are willing to cooperate with me and tell me the battlefield situation.
I think 60% of the player base more prefered COD likes “all on my own” gameplay.

Imagine 2 SPGs pummeling the same small open CP every 5 seconds with a 150mm HE shell from their own spawn and resupply.

I’ve literally played X games where similar things were. What are you even talking about?

You act like you know better. And other people have wrong opinions just because they don’t have the right informations. And thus can’t form the right opinion that is consistent with yours.
Even if they have them. And they just aren’t interested in things like that.

This is clearly an unreasonable worry, as similar things have appeared in many games and even Enlisted, and did not cause the expected disaster.
Even current mortar in game can create much denser firepower.

I did play that but there objectives are like 500% the size of the once we got so random HE would most likely miss there.

Mortars barely cover any area on an objective.
So unless they somewhat direct hit your squad you are fine.
If they allow heavy artillary guns a single shell might cover half the damn point due to fragmentation unless they cap it at the odd 75mm gun caliber. But then what is the point of that when mortars would do the same but without blocking a slot.

Not applicable to most maps.

That is because those vehicles currently can only direct fire. It will be a different story when you can’t see them when you are on land.

Please play Big Action, rocket tanks indirect fire and you can built artillery pieces, not to mention Stuka and IL2 attacks (AI), these vehicles are not meant to be direct fire…

Just see the potential, what could be brought into base game.

Definitely don’t think we should get actual artillery SPGs, it would be unfun to deal with, frankly lame, and completely unneeded

So I support any equipment that appears in real life to appear in the game.
Especially equipment that provides more tactical options
If you don’t like other people’s tactical behavior using knowledge and equipment
Maybe you are more suitable for playing some FPS competitions

This is a (Team PVP) game
If you are the only one doing all the work
The problem is probably with your teammates.
Give up on these spies and start the next battle
Or report their war crimes

yeah those would work just like mortars, you’d score some kills if you’re really lucky or have well placed pings from your team, those classes are not designed to be countered, those classes put their valuable time into something that might not pay off at all, it’s the main reason why I don’t play mortars, often I score no kills at all and just waste time, I can’t understand the run&gun gatekeeping thing though, yeah I prefer more active gameplay but if there’s someone who prefer to sacrifice his time to really put good effort into playing more tactically based on players pings etc. I’m cool with it.

In a game where average plane players spamming “need enemy coordinates” to find a tank?

You can’t really hear it since it is too far away and you don’t have the line of sight to see it.

So every time I need to run 200m into the grey zone to kill it? That is just annoying and wasting time.

How do you even get the location of SPG when using mortar?

Indirect fire is not feasible for SPG under such short range.
