Pure skill issue.

Howitzers are very easy to spot from aircraft, at least in “big action”. They are the only thing in the open and emit a lot of flash when fired, often relying on AA positions to survive.

Lol don’t always think that f2p players have so many slots to bring those situational squad. When more players bring planes to counter those vehicles, you will most likely come and rant about incompetent players occupying the plane slot.

How do you even turn those vehicles to mortar in the first place?
Mortar has the ability to indirect fire in such a short range because it can elevate high enough.
Most vehicle’s main armament can’t even elevate that high.

Use sound to infer distance (this is what I usually do when I’m looking for a target behind an enemy)
Large caliber guns make more noise so there is no need to go deep into the rear
Then mark it on the map and test fire the mortar to confirm the location
Although this behavior requires a lot of experience to achieve
But I have seen at least 3 players every week who have been able to use mortars to destroy high-risk targets such as anti-tank guns, bunkers, machine guns and tanks without marking.
So I think this behavior is basically feasible

The mortar guy might go and observe the enemy while you are not watching.
The mark might already disappear and you didn’t even notice.
The mortar guy might be killed by the particular enemy last time and spawn in as mortar to revenge.
