I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. Many of Enlisted competitors (the most notorious one being Hell Let Loose), instead of punishing deserters, rewards those who stay by giving a 50% bonus or something like that. That is what should happen instead. That way, it stops the problem at the root. It gives deserters and other players a reason to stay in a match. After all, in a grindy game, even 50% can make a huge difference in scaling the tech tree.
I don’t want to be punished for leaving just because I had to put dinner on for my family and my expected game ran over time.
Works for me - I’ve deserted a handful of times over the years - mostly because I’m having a crap day already, have to capture 1 point as a daily, and I’m in another firetrucking defence!
To be honest, I don’t care. I’ve said this before, but unless they are going to suspend or ban people for deserting, it won’t change anything, and like I have said before, banning or suspending hurts the game more then it helps by dropping player numbers when DF tells us there is not enough players to begin with.
I’ve been playing for three years, there basically is nothing they can do that will make me continue if I don’t want to, as there is not much I need, so what can they do? I personally think the whole thing is stupid, this is a video game, just give the people who desert nothing, so if they are going to desert they might as well do it early instead of playing almost till the end because they just wasted their time, but I don’t see any penalties that will make a difference.
BTW, I don’t desert much as far as deserters go, and my career 61.57% win loss should vouch for that.
I mean fuck deserters, however your right, the carrot approach would be better.
But how do you reward those who stay now, do you base it off how many desert? Because while that is nice for the people who stay, and Id love such a system, it doesnt exactly discourage deserting.
And if its just for sticking around the whole match, that might actually work…
I was thinking just a 50% flat rate would be a good start. So, for sticking around, and even if you lose, you will get the same amount as you originally would for winning a match.
Otherwise, it could be based off those who leave. Maybe 20% for the first person who leaves, 50% for the next who leaves, 75% after that etc. But I think the flat rate of 50% bonus is good enough and easier.
Yeah a flat rate works well, its certainly simpler. Though you then still have the vets issue of people who already have everything, deserting, dont know if there is any way to get them to not desert?
Maybe make a separate game mode where those who have fully unlocked the tech tree can fight against each other? WOT and War Thunder have level cut offs on some game modes, so maybe they could implement a “Research Tier V in any nation first” rule for the game mode.
The only scenario is Israel where if you’re below Tier IV research you can’t buy a tank, but definitely in World Of Tanks there are cut offs (or used to be; I stopped playing like 2 years ago because it became fully p2w).
its Tier 4 US research in particular if I recall, it was done to stop a repeat of the chinese tech tree in it, well that and the fact Israel of a state was formed after WW2 so was missing a lot of potential vehicle that could be added in tier 3 and below.
its not the veterans lobby though? Its a nation thats queued into all the same matches as everyone else, its just saying, you need Tier 4 tanks before you unlock tier 5 tanks. Or well you need tier 4 unlocked to unlock tier 4 tanks.
No, because it’s a completely separate queue. Only those who have grinded up to tier V can access it, and it is separated from the ordinary squads mode.
Its just a different nation, it queues into the exact same matches, hell new players can buy an Israeli premium and play it right away?
But everyone in the game, no matter the nation, have to grind to Tier 5 vehicles to use Tier 5 vehicles.
You might be confused because while everyone else’s tech tree starts at 1.0, Israels tank tree starts at 6.3 I think, and their lowest ground vehicle is still 4.3?
I’m talking about Enlisted. Make a separate game mode that only those who have grinded to Tier V can enter. I can’t get any clearer than that. And no, premiums will not count towards it.
We won’t be able to outright ban maps or entire campaigns (so have fun with BR5 Tunisia and BR5 Stalingrad)
We won’t be able to leave pointless matches with obvious outcome thanks to the completely incompetent team/tryhard enemies.
Can’t pick the gamemode
Get a full uptier vs total tryhards (both teams as i also hate boring stomps in my favour and quit those matches)
Instead of deserting people will just use scripts to afk or just alt tab and go take a shit as it would be more entertaining that getting spawn killed for next 10 minutes.
To be fair, that roadmap is approximately 1.5 years old so they didn’t just add it.
I won’t participate in another long debate on the topic but I think desertion is a problem currently and I do think it’s worse than it was in the past. If I spawn into a match defending and the first point is lost because people deserted because it was lost (or because they don’t like the map or mode, or maybe before the match even started due to “preferences”) then they have negatively impacted my experience.
I think people need to have some mechanism to influence what games they play (e.g. map preference) but we can’t have free will to quit. And games quit need to be losses so we don’t have self-glossers bailing matches to puff up their useless win/loss stats.
