Enlisted is "build to win"

Neither premium accounts nor end-game gears are sufficient.
Building rallies and fortifications is the fast track to victory.
Why did the devs choose a sniper team rather than an engineer squad as one of the default squads?

From what I have gathered, the intention was to show just how much of a difference the engineers make by not giving them by default. Note that all campaigns you unlock them pretty early on.

By not having them to start, it draws more attention to them.

Now this is from my own experience studying game design in school, but it comes down to over-exposure to mechanics with new players. If you overwhelm them with too many mechanics at once, then they get confused and disconnect.

A sniper is a lot easier to introduce then an engineer with its various build options and placements. And although it comes to a lot of us naturally, there is a large casual base that takes a lot longer to get a grasp of things

So long infact there are still never enough rallies

What?
You can’t be serious, lol?

Sounds reasonable. And don’t think the treshold to unlock them will be specifically high either.

No, really. Similar to @Chickydoodles, I’ve had some training in regards to game design.

While I definitely agree with the things he said, I still hold to my original statement.

Think about it. When you first started out, and were running at the objective from the spawn, you were probably thinking “man I wish this run wasn’t so far”.
Before long you saw that rally points were a thing. Making you think “man, I can’t wait to get the ability to use those”.

Same concept for ammo boxes and other constructions.

It made you WANT access to Engineers, rather that just take them for granted. I forget the name of it, but there is some psychology behind it.

Yeah they at least learned from tunisia with that kinda. Not super early, but not so late in the progression at least.

Its just there so people aren’t thrown into the immediate fray of mechanics when they first start the game.
Snipers are stupid simple, and allow for the learning of game mechanics like aiming, shooting, and the teaching that not everything is like COD or BF. Once they get a grasp on the game, then the best type of soldier is given to them.
(my best guess)

that and Snipers have held a mantle for players for the longest of time. Major cool factor…

even though in enlisted they are the most boring type of squad haha

Maybe I interpreted your message wrong, because my impression was that you were overthinking the whole situation.

I lean towards chickys explanation about not complicating stuff for a new player rather than make them suffer and thus realize the importance of engineering

Bad beginner tutorial, the beginner usually build wire rather than rally point

I’ve been told lot of BS in school (it mostly really do not reflects real world). Seems more like some mindset of Ubisoft developer.
I am quite glad things like this are complete BS. We learned this from games like Elden Ring and so on.

Btw. Engineer really isn’t extremely complex, its pretty much copy pasted concept of ±15 years old already.
I would really love to see anyone who’s overwhelmed by his mechanics. (Not counting players who are completely new to the gaming. But games really shouldn’t me made for such types. Since they’re not going to be new to the gaming for eternity)

I really hate and despise this lame concept of “everything should be so easy to understand that basically 5 yo can play this game”.

Engineering units may consist of engineers. It’s up to you to build your team. 6 engineers build faster, can build more, but you are limited by the build limit per player.

Btw, can I already order my engineers to build stuff, move a way and they will finish it?
Last time I tried this they abandoned construction (and canceled blueprint) when I moved 10m away.

Only if you keep the hammer in your hand, switch it to something else delete the construction order

Nonetheless, I guess a “monkey proof” start is necessary in such F2P games whose survival relies on trawl fishing as many fresh players as possible, in the hope some whales stay hooked.

The entrance step must be kept as low as possible.

This is because when the enemy comes, both you and the rest of the soldiers stop their work and draw their weapons.

Sad.
I still have to babysit them then.

snipers are underated.

granted, too many people use them and aren’t good at it,

but nothing more satisfying than taking down engies, disrupt defenders / assaulters charges dropping them one by one.

or, having a competent buddy with a sniper and getting covered while i close in to the enemy positions.

( on top, sniper stg it’s truly something else )

( although, yeah. engies are the way for success. and not many people build rallies )
