A while ago, the devs added rewards for engineers that actively build fortifications and place rally points. It was great for providing an incentive for people to use engineers. However, I still do not see a noticeable increase in the usage of engineers even though you can now gain points for doing so and I often see only my rally point being present for my whole team. I’m certain this is due to many new players simply being unaware of what an engineer is and how useful buildings fortifications can be.
SOLUTION:
Expand the tutorial for all classes including the engineer. Specifically for this class, it should be explained and demonstrated what engineers can build and how useful rally points can really be. Maybe set the tutorial so that a sole engineer has to flank a tank and spawn his bomber teammates to take it out from the side. The encouragement and incentive to play as engineers is already there so now it’s just a matter of teaching new players that you are able to play as an engineer.
agree on this I myself pretty much use 3 engi squad, 1 prem and the 2 basic since there is not much people doing engi stuff most especially building rally points or aa
Agree, once unlocked by the engineering squad AA and AT should be available for any engineer to create.
I have an engineer in quite a few squads as ammo bearers, very useful in my sniper squad that also has a bomber. Plus the benefit of being able to place a rally.
My first position soldier in every squad is an Engineer and I consider him more as a Squad leader. I go build a rally point, ammo box, and maybe some fortification depending on positioning, then switch soldiers to a better fighting class for the situation.
A basic tutorial would help and the Engineer tutorial should be a priority as no other class has as big of an impact on gameplay with their rally points. They dictate the flow of the battle.
I agree the first time with an engineer my reaction was “now what do I do” after days I realized its real potential after a player in normandy led the whole team to victory by building rally points, aa-at, barricading CP , this class is extremely underrated
They would make Engineers 100x times more enjoyable to use if the AI could keep building the rally after you start it and swap to another soldier.
I have a god tier Engineer (75% med, 200% hp recovered, 100% stamina recovery, 10% run speed, -50% effect of explosions, etc) in first slot on every infantry squad. I use them to run a distance, drop smokes (each has 3 of those), cover the approach of my main squad and build a rally if needed. And the biggest issue is having to wait like 15 seconds while the rally is up before swapping to a Gunner / Assaulter / Sniper and proceeding to shoot people.
If they let the AI keep building rally after you swapped, they will improve the class by a lot and make it less of a chore to use for blood hungry players.
With that being said, AA guns are AT guns in their current state are still just a meme that mostly only new players use. The AT guns need to have wheels and be mobile. The AA guns need much more ammo and bullet speed and do like 10x more damage to planes. Give them a sizable cooldown too, so they aren’t used against infantry as much but used to actually burst down planes.
They do… As long as u have more than 1 eng in your squad.
When you start building something press x on it (you have to stop building so the action takes place) and remaining ai soldiers on your squad will come, grab the hammer and finish it for you.
I usually place a pak gun and press x on it so my ai soldiers build it for me while I cover.
Yeah planes are horrible and ONLY 1 squad can make AA so that is IF it is present then IF the person makes an AA then IF they man the AA the entire map so I thought the same thing all engineers at say level II should be able to make AA.
But currently its much more difficult to shoot down a plane takes em 3 tries now or more may not be worth it.
This is exactly what I do the first personnel addition to any squad I am upgrading is usually an engineer unless I gotta go with sniper cause I can’t get it later. The first thing I do after spawning it is to put down a rally.
Often I put down a rally on a flank and if people spawn in and attack the position usually changes pretty quick and we can move to the next one.
The worst thing about engineers is putting down rallies that you cannot spawn on after you get wiped out cause the interface hides the spawn point I wish more peeps would mention this.
First is that you don’t get that many of them , and if you put one on each squad, you won’t be playing the engeneer squad, so you would never be able to use specific constructions 2, each engeneer should be able te create his engeneer’s unit constructions.
Second is that putting spawn point is boring as f*, and on normandy there isn’t that many spot where it could survive one bomb or one airstrike. So wasting time to add one is pretty much useless, it’s lifespam is way too short, not much safe spot/not enough health . I usualy try to add them because i prefer to win. For exemple on the last map i did set 20 constructions , and my discordmate 10, 8 other teammates 0. But for me it’s so frustrating, wasting so much time.
The worse part of the game is that cliker like planes or radio operator are way too strong, ofc people use them because you need way too much xp for that game, but there no fun in broken mechanisms.
The same for me. First of all, an engi for each squad
and yes they should bring the skills of their squad with them
that means AA-AT eventual the MG-Nest
both of which need an urgent buff if you don’t want to nerf the artillery and planes.
