Dispersion

Why is it even in the game? Don’t we have recoil already? Since you have made the recoil so bad for guns already, why do we need extra glass in our shoes?

To punish skilled players and to make sure the players don’t know what the concept of a kill zone is.

How do we get the devs to stop doing this?

I doubt they’re gonna fix it they’re trying to keep the player retention high no one likes getting their ass kicked especially when it’s people who know how to use the weapon.

Why not just let players get good?

Rising Storm 2 and Red Orchestra 2 did this; they were pretty successful.

agreed a little. guns should have little dispersion especially top tier autos and mgs. while recoil should be slightly buffed

So 2 things regarding dispersion:

  1. It is something that actually exists. Barrel length and rifling help to minimize it, but bullets do NOT in fact have perfect grouping, especially in the case of automatics and weapons with short barrels.

  2. The reason that it has been increased a bit more than normal within the game is to make up for other factors that could affect accuracy when using a firearm, including but not limited to:

  • weapon sway
  • muscle fatigue (weapon steadiness)
  • condition of the weapon

Please keep in mind that you are playing the part of grunts in WW2, not Super-Soldiers in a modern conflict.
They would have been VERY susceptible to the conditions that would effect their accuracy, and not have laser-like precision that so many games seem to have anymore.

So rather than having extra visual sway or movement to the weapon, they add in a little extra dispersion. Its easy enough to counter anyways, as a fully upgraded weapon will remove the extra dispersion, and what is left is realistic.

If you find that the dispersion is still too much to handle, that is a sign that you need to move in closer to your target, or select a different weapon.

Ultimately, it comes down to the simple fact that perfect accuracy did not exist, so it should not be presented as such in the game.

no one asked for dispersion.

I for one am actually GLAD that it is in the game.

Reaper I know you have good intentions but just dispersion it hurts defenders when we’re stationary we should be able to hit a target when we’re defending a zone.

Tell me, if I aim at a target (assuming it is sighted correctly) and shoot it, will it hit?

This game is trying to be realistic.
Whether you asked or not, dispersion is a real thing, and it’s in the game.
Just crouch to make it better.

I don’t understand this argument. Do people have to specifically request a feature for the devs to consider it?

I’m not a big fan of large dispersion, but I understand the reasoning. It’s really two parts: it’s a representative of multiple variables that affect shooting accuracy that aren’t modeled in game, and it’s there for weapon balance.

Early on they had significantly less dispersion on all weapons; more closely modeled to the guns real accuracy. The problem is that the engagement ranges in enlisted are well within the accurate range of every gun in the game, so smgs were dominant and they’re was no reason to use rifles or anything else.

Darkflow chose to dramatically reduce the accuracy of many weapons as a way to generate variation in performance that was within the engagement ranges of the game. Personally I think it’s a lazy approach that avoids the more complicated solutions they could have chosen, but there it is.

So saying “nobody asked for this” adds nothing to the conversation and certainly doesn’t push the cause of fixing the problem forward.

the first shot, the second will be off target the third mor so and so on depending on range and rate of fire the worse dispersion will be

Oh, so because of the barrel moving because of recoil, it will shoot somewhere else it is aimed at. It’s almost like the bullet will go where you aim it.

It’s your grip on the gun right? Are you aiming down the sights properly? Are you braced properly? Have you corrected for wind? How’s your breathing? Your nerves? Your vision?

You’re not firing the gun from a test stand in perfect conditions, so there are going to be variations that the game can’t model.

Dispersion is exaggerated in this game no doubt, but pointing that out won’t make a difference because they did it on purpose for balance.

Just saying it should be zero is going too far on the other direction, there needs to be a better answer for balancing the range difference in the guns. Give darkflow a better answer and hopefully they’ll listen and change things for the better.

Your problem is most likely shooting while moving.
In that case:

Partly but, The reason you’re not hitting anything is because you are moving and you sights aren’t alligned perfectly.
Just croutch while shooting and it removes most of the gun sway and disperion.
It’s not that hard.

My only problem is with the developers acting like a bullet won’t hit what it is aimed at. I understand that it is harder to shoot while standing up in real life, but even crouching or going prone does not change the fact that every gun I shoot is a smooth-bore automatic musket. Even the HMGs, which are stationary, are glorified automatic muskets. Don’t you see the issue in this game?
