I assume your talking about the Meteor, as to answer that, while all the jets in game have buffed turn time compared to irl as far as I know, the Meteor irl did have the best turn compared to the jets in game.
You can literally be going 500+mph and turn on a dime in that thing. The G-force alone (and with the bombs on the wings) would rip that wing right off. Its literally insane how that thing flys, regardless of speed
I mean theres a reason it has been described as a spitfire but with jets. Dont get me wrong, its absurd, and I dont think any of the jets in game should have their turn time reduced “to make them more fun”, but the Meteor genuinely irl was that much more agile than the other jets we see in game.
For comparison its about 8 seconds faster to turn than a Me262.
To un-buff them, youd be looking at about a 66% ±10% increase in turn time, depending on which jet is being looked at.
I played and enjoy both my beautiful Commonwealth Meteor and the Jabo…
I found out a fatal flaw of the Meteor in game, that the Jabo does not have… which makes both worthwhile!
Hint: do play them as jets and not as biplane turn fighters and you’ll notice eventually
spill the beans. is it that you can’t see behind or below you?
No, way more simple.
Both are jets, both have very high top speed… But one regains speed (acceleration) very fast after a maneuver, while the other, even if extremely nimble… struggle to build it back. A piston engine plane ( of high br) will regain speed almost as quickly.
I hunted Meteors yesterday with G10 and Fiat55. There was nothing they could do.
The Meteor turns like a champ. But it CANNOT DO MULTIPLE turns unless you want to bleed all your energy, then becoming a sitting duck for simple propeller planes.
The Jabo on the other hand, will lose in a turn fight. Always.
But… Why would you engage in turn fights in the first place ?
Make a pass, deviate to follow your target a bit, but if missed, just keep going. You’ll be at 600+ Tas in mere seconds. Nothing will catch up.
I tried doing that not being able to see the enemy behind me anymore but a few seconds after I started turning to go back to point they followed me for like 30k m
There’s something you can do that greatly help looking around…
It’s sadly tied to the pilot and his skill points.
In the “yellow” tab, there’s a skill you can pick 4 times “bigger peripheral vision” something.
Of course you want the 15 points skill making enemy appears sooner first, but dump the rest into that skill. A pilot3 can have it 2 times if I remember well…
And it works! You can hold “c” and look further back.
But knowing your plane and your enemy is key. Yes you cannot see much through metal no matter the skill set. So you must analyze:
“I’m going at 600+ TAS, my enemy is in a Meteor who can potentially reach that, but is in a turn which will reduce his speed to around 350-400 TAS, and it will take time for him to catch up. After about that much time… it should be safe for me turn a bit and look… and if I don’t see him, do a 180 degree a charge again full speed”
What I just wrote is my personal tactic tried yesterday. In a match using axis planes, I took 15 enemies down. Died twice. They kept using the Meteor. There wasn’t any AI bomber formations.
(I used the Jabo, then G10, then Fiat. Jabo died to a revenge spawn, G10 to A20 AI gunner and Fiat survived).
So it’s certainly doable
The infancy of jets in ww2 did not include fighter bombers. The 262 was designed for it, against all rational thought but never really used in such a way.
Duuuuuuuuuuude…shhhh
I KNOW…
But I remember when my worst enemies were trees and the ground. I took YOU as a mentor and you helped me get better.
I cannot let fellow pilot enthusiasts in the dark…
People are so bad at flying it hurts my soul
There’s plenty that they could have done, they just didn’t do it lol
Jets have almost double the climb speed for example…
The one time I’ve played recently (I’m a little burned out) I just kept murdering jets with the damn Yak9K - they just insisted on doing horizontal turns around me for no reason…
Right???
They stop at “oooh my turn time is great and I’m fast, I’ll get you!”
I’m like “dude… you’ll never out turn a much slower plane with already good turn rate… biplanes taught you nothing?”
(And I’m glad they forget how amazing those are to gain energy, that’s how they would get me)
Too many people taking the jets. (Cant get a spawn )
Ill just fly the mossie and a-8 for a bit at BR 3
“I nod at you my good sir.”
Yes I’m both happy and sad that so many players take the pilot seat.
Happy: so many targets in the skies!!! At last! Even if they use jets as one direction attack planes… barbarians.
Sad: the spot if often taken in my team…
