All soldiers should just start with belt as base, then you can buy accessories such as tarps, suspender, haversack, etc separately. Of course accessories like magazine pouches, grenade pouches, backpacks, canteen, melee weapons, and binoculars should be added based on whether you purchased said item in equipment section or not.
That being said, DF should make few alternative for magazine pouches, one for stripper clips, one for magazines, even bandoleer for FG42 magazines to make players not stuck with preset pouches when using other weapons.
I think that the main reason why that isn’t a thing because there are too many weapons, too many prototypes with unique magazines that doesn’t have a IRL pouch that could fit them ect…

We don’t need to cater for prototype weapons. Just use standard issued rifle stripper clip/magazine pouches, submachine gun magazine pouches, and machine gun belt pouches within the respective armies.
Many weapons share the same magazines like Mp40 “Schmeisser” mag which was also used Mp34(ö), Mp35, Erma MP and the pouch itself could fit many different SMG magazines.
But still there are weapons like AS-44 that didn’t have a pouch specifically for them or at least I don’t know about.
I agree with you in principle, but I also agree with others that it would be a lot of work for little gain making designs for every single gun/grenade in game.
What I do think though is that DF should fix the errors present on existing customisations. Like when you add an ammo pouch or grenade pouch and its randomly placed on the soldier, standing out as an unnatural add on. Indeed sometimes other customisations or the default uniform will interfere with customisation options so there’s a glitch.
Furthermore (this has been suggested before), make it clearer which ammo pouches and such like are used by which faction. Some people dont care but I believe many players (myself included) are tired of confusing the two. Perhaps the squad that a soldier is in automatically applies that faction’s kit?
Eg. If I have a British squad and I select ammo pouch, it will automatically be a British ammo pouch rather than an American one.
