First, I do not play WT. So I dont know what’s going on there. But this game is not WT, and is a FPS game. FPS is a lot different and more sensible in all kinds of aspect. Like the match joining mechanism. (Not matchmaking because you can manually join a match)
The worst part of current matchmaking or the mechanism of joining a match is that it dosent provide any balance of player count in each side! So often, you may end up in 1vs5 or even 3vs21+.
Like these:
Or even more worse, this:
LOL, just joined a match to test this:
The maximum players per side is 20 in solo mode, 10 in squad. Soviet/German just has so many humans that exceed the limit…
Also, even in peak hours, when there’s lots of players. There’s still like, in one match soviet has more ppl, next one is german has more ppl.
This is nothing to do with current playerbase.
The current matchmaking system is like this:
You have a maximum of 2min waiting time to join any match. If 2min is arrived, create a brand new match. (Which is good! New match give you advantage!)
Fill in bots one by one, one in A side next in B, next in A. The interval of each addin bot is like 5s.
Meanwhile let human players in , REGARDLESS of which server he choose (Often send you to the wrong server) and player count balance.
Joining process continues to 1min or even 3min after the match let in the first one.
The time of from first one entered to the last one entered in this video is :
NEARLY 2min30s!
So, often, you may joined a already started match, like invasion:
Your team already lost a sector then you joined that match.
This must made you frustrate because there’s already a huge disadvantage that may never turn back.
And, in conquest mode, the first few ppl has the starter advantage: They can capture sector without any enemies encountered. If you are late to that match, the roads are already filled with enemies that makes you difficult to get to the sector.
Also, this is nothing to do with current playerbase.
And a side effect of current matchmaking system:
It’s like traffic “platoon”. If you end one match and quickly start the next one, which most players do, this makes you meet the same players in the last match. That’s ok. But, if your previous match is unbalanced , your next match may also unbalanced.
Also, current matchmaking system do nothing to protect low level/new players against veterans.
The suggestions are:
If you, the developers, are too lazy to change a lot of mechanism. Then:
- Fix that bug cause you being send to wrong servers.
(see this: (Hello?Any developer anwser this?)Keep sending me to the wrong server! Especially ridiculous frequent now! - #8 by 98438685) - The ability to choose which mode/maps to join. ATM, if you dislike one map/mode, and you quit a match. You still joined the same map/mode until a certain time passed!
- Try to make sure one match is not unbalanced too much like 2vs10. If there’s tons of particular side players flow in, let them enter a new match.
- If great unbalance is unavoidable, see this thread for compensation:
XP multiplier of less human side for a balance compensate? - #7 by 61709115 - Try to judge one player’s level by its campaign level. If his campaign level is too low, treat him as a new player. For new players’ protection: At his first several matches (or campaign levels, like <lv2), let him enters pure bot match! Or gather new players in one side and let them play PvE! Give them some fun and also levels up quickly to get some fundamental campaign levels/squads/guns, also a easy way to explore the game.
- After enter a match, wait until most players arrive! Let players start at the same time!
Or even use a “warm up” time session for players joined early. Then start the match after everyone is here! - TBC
Or just make the matchmaking system like the traditional FPS games!
Let us have the “room/match list” to choose.
Let us can create custom/private matches!
Still provide join a match function for those who dont want to browse match list.
Use a player’s rank system!
Introducing “room/match list” can easily provide a strong player balance.
There’s so many mature solutions of this. Just copy one!
