"Core" Content needs Priority: Starting with better AI ($10 game does it better)

That’s a lot to read, thank you for suggestion с:

I hear that, I have zero regard for my bots since all they do is sabotage my game. One would think that DF could at the very least program them to run when you run, instead of them lagging 500 meters behind. I have no idea how most of my bots die since they are usually not close to me when they do die, and the ones I know about die because they were ordered to stay in a room and damn near every one of them went outside and stood in the open. There must be something programmed in the algorithm as well for Radiomen, because mine is ALWAYS the first to die. They are like the new crewman on the original Star Trek wearing the red shirts who are the only crew that ever die.

Tried to save the eyes with formatting :grimacing:

from what I know easy red 2 is booted on Unity engine which is just literall playground for coding, compare this to dagor engine which isn’t anything like that, for years gajin publisher has focused on the graphics and engine/simulations on their games no wonder AI suck so much, and look it worked, that’s why we playing enlisted and not easy red 2, suggestions for better AI should be given directly to Gajin, although I wouldn’t count on it anymore.

I just hope indie games will appear on UE5 with graphics as good as gajins but on top of that good environment for coding and AI. Until then I’m playing enlisted.

Funny thing is, i have been playing it this last week, and, obviously the map graphics are dated…

But through lighting, hi res weapon and character textures combined with all the small details (gun play, animations, ragdoll, full environment destruction, ai immersion, no censorship)

In places it looks better (immersion wise). stalingrad and railway station feel better than enlisted just through colour and tone and the skybox.(enlisted can do that, was on show in the halloween event)

Probably nostalgia from old games mixed in

there are alots of errors in this suggestion.
of supposedly things that AI don’t do, but in reality they do.

but with that being said, it is without a doubt, having better AI a necessity by this point.

P.s.
when a 10 game dollar game has a better editor and already built in location editor with splines, vegetation an what not but enlisted doesn’t :skull:

Feel free to point them out so i can correct the OP if you think its important.

I am aware that pure AI squads can do some of these things, and capable of doing it in mods. Just not in player squads in squads mode

Is there really none? Even terror inducing (for the feeble minded) windmills???

There be windmills

HELL YES, THANKS FOR THIS POST, you made it,you explained how they should improve in a good way without making fun, mockery and such

I’m surprised. In the video you posted, there’s the same boring censored cross of red banners on buildings.

Is there an “harmonious” function in that game to boot?

Dont think so. I havent looked heaps closely for that (been more taken by battle immersion)

But i do know the windmill is the flag when you choose nation

I suppose semi censored is better than 100% censored.

Must try that game when I get the time. Reminds me of red orchestra

For honour!!!

It’s great that AI is even tailored to the faction it controls

well… i sort of take that back.
but i have to put " money where my mouth is ".

it’s more about some of the things that they can do ( but that’s because… most likely no one plays much PVE content like i do. so i can’t really blaime anyone and having knowledged through the editor because of various experimentation can give alot of insight )

so… to make it short, AI can do many things that you wouldn’t think, but the reason why they don’t, it’s because of the developers giving them alot of troubles and AI often get caught up by alot of checks and other tasks that they perform but takes ages to split in the decision making.

which the reason why they stutter so much, it’s because AI don’t know if they should hide and return fire.
not to play in devils advocate, but there are many ,many things to keep track.

but, there are no exscuses for AI not being able to fire on the move, not being able to use emplacement ( which, they theretically can, but only players AI do it, and need the player to be near by )

again, some inconsistencies ( like, ai are able to climb windows if the door is obstructed. AI can use AA. And other minor things. )

in general, squads should act more as squads, but they don’t.
and having to stand near players or move away have implications on both fronts.

anyway… i hope they will be able to figure out something like they did in red 2.

which… to be honest, red 2 AI aren’t… really that great after you realize their pattern for few match.
but they sure do feel immersive.

imo, good ai system are ready or not, and insurgency sandstorm.
but then again, both were made with different playstyles in mind.
( but both have " aimbot " issues. which it’s where AI efficency comes from )

and having AI to adapt to players can be a daunting and impossible task.
anyway, one can hope.

based on my personal experience, enlisted bots can only be challenging if are in numbers.
because by the time you are shooting at 2 / 3 AIs, the others will react and detect / fire back.

with that being said, i do think AI are dumb on purpose because of people who finds current AI " difficult " to deal with.

and such complaints often comes from console players.

console players, for the most part… are kinda bad.
which i wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, ( well, it kinda is ) but for them, it gets even more challenging having to deal with AIs that snaps at you with controllers.

auto aim, despite being present, is not as good as people claim it to be.

i don’t think such casual audience is really willing to stick around when bots are even better than they are ( lol )
effectively cutting out playerbase for DF.
( although, i must admit. a conspiracy theory that i came up with after long periods of deficency from the ai, and lack of substantial improvements. i mean, they do build rallies, place boxes and medkits. which, if you notice, they add implementation of what AI is capable of doing, but not change a whole lot of how they do it. )

No doubt you are right.

I sorta realised that, so i was really heavy on saying immersive AI in my post  …which should be the minimum

Yes thanks, and you are right, i made pve games to test enlisted AI while i was writing this post, and they can do all sorts of stuff you dont see in player squads.

Like flame throwers, at weapons grenades, mortars etc…

But they still janky, stutter and cant decide what to do… i got bored watching them before i could be bothered recording it for the video in the op.

Its in a bad way

that’s… probably for the best.

otherwise, if you want to have a nightmare / tryhard experience against AIs i reccomend giving a shot to my ardenne pve match.

ai with mortars and machinegun sure are deadlier.

they can also fire from bushes :skull:

but for the most part, a demonstration of what they can do:

https://sandbox.enlisted.net/post/cJrjfgvHmC8GpMPJ/manifest/6/

( warning, it make take from 15 min, up to 1 hour. depending how many players there are )

but yeah. without a doubt, much work is needed.

also… sorry for the smameless plug. ._.
