Perhaps a proximity spot xp bonus then for infantry killed near a mark?
I’d say that having Snipers get kills for killing specialists may not entirely be a good idea, but rather have them kill high priority soldiers. Ending kill streaks, killing the last member of a squad, or the player-member of a squad.
A good sniper prioritizes the kill shots and picks and chooses targets based on how they act and perceived importance on the battlefield. Right now, I feel most snipers are highly capable of doing this, but don’t get rewarded for doing so and thus get overlooked in the meta.
Perhaps? Snipers should get bonuses for infantry they kill near mark their team made, and get bonuses as assists for infantry killed near marks they made. That way, they’re getting XP for killing targets the team calls out, and xp for keeping their team aware of enemy movements.
I’m not sure I agree with this, but it’s worth discussing. My primary concern is that with the proposed XP bonuses for snipers, thus encouraging better mechanical sniper gameplay, one of the highest value targets a sniper can shoot is an enemy sniper. If you make them invisible to callouts you’re maybe creating a situation where the Sniper is the new Engineer, invaluable and necessary for victory, but without a real counter.
Location-based marking could still work and if they were kept invisible from individual callouts, it’d likely be that seeing regular pings on the map would alert people to their presence still. In another thread I’m in, mortars aren’t really seeing counterplay due to their unique nature as a ranged, indirect harassment unit. If snipers had more elevated positions to fire from, they’d be the counterplay to mortars, that mortars (being highly accurate on-demand artillery units) would be to them.
In effect? Two high kill-potential units built more or less to directly counter the other. XP incentives could even be utilized to help reward more patient mortar/sniper players who wait for fire orders on specific locations. It could be another way to make the radio operator also have a bit more pull on a match, being able to set ‘fire orders’ which are zones that indicate increased XP gain for Mortar or Sniper units that obtain kills in that zone.
I’m probably going a bit overboard in spitballing these, but I like the concept of the radio-man being a unit that increases XP gain by basically creating scary zones of death and XP boosts.
I don’t hate anything you just said, but I don’t have the energy to further explore those concepts right now.
In short, I love the idea of situational XP bonuses for specific, teamwork activities that would push the game further away from being the kill-farming brainless murderfest it’s been for the past month or so.
Speaking of class mvp, I know you play Berlin alot, how is the old assaulter premium squad now that it can benefit from being 5 stars? I haven’t been in Berlin in a while but I liked that squad a lot.
i donno… i dont play much with it, the free versions are far superior . because… engineer.
mp40/I not gonna lie, strong solid smg. was worth every single cent. but i still need more soldiers there to justify the usage over or on par a free version.
i just play berlin over and over with the first 6 squads on this list
but, right now , i can finnaly grind moscow campaign on decent maps lol x). as my berlin and normandy campaigns are fully done, tunisia (axis side) too, i can finnaly enjoy my premiums on moscow max campaign here i gooo ;
I hereby welcome you to Moscow, the best campaign of them all! Tank play is also very rewarding here, as it’s more balanced than anywhere else.
As for the premium assaulters, yes it’s because of the mp40/I, I’m very fond of it, reminds me of RO2. Looking at stats from your guy I’m happy to see the soldiers are now very viable. Let’s just hope that someday, we will be able to fill up the squads and play with class composition.
Oooh I haven’t thought about it… Moscow tanks in Berlin must be absolutely amazing. They are smaller, so I easily see very interesting play with them being able to get between debris and/or houses with ease. A must try!
Speaking of snipers, what would make the sniper class more useful would be if they were immune to kill cam. As it is now, in squads someone can just cycle to the next troop immediately while he knows your exact position and spray MG fire in your direction.
