Challenge For Developers - KOREAN WAR CAMPAIGN

Hello,

I started to think how a new campaign that would bring more Asian players and interest towards the game by separating it from the other FPS games on the market with a rare jewel of a campaign that no one else has made.

My answer is KOREAN WAR CAMPAIGN.

There are almost no FPS games anywhere where you could play on the Korean front? This is remarkable considering the fact that Korean war lasted from 1950-1953 and it was participated by the Communist sino-soviet block as well as free world democracies.

Making this campaign would be easy due to the fact that majority of the weapons used in the second world war were used in Korea as well, with few additional ones (Jets Mig-15 & Sabre).

Basically North Korean/ Chinese side would be using soviet weapons and some Chinese variants as well as few new additional weapons. Also, adding new variants would be easier due to the scale of conflict and the time era when it was fought. Quite a few weapons that never made it to second world war were used on wider scale in Korean War later on.

South Korea/Allies side would be using the same weapons from the second world war era, with few additional ones.

What would it make even more interesting from the players perspective is that western/ soviet weapons have not really met one another on the front lines before this campaign anywhere?

Additional perks:

  • Creating Asia-Pacific campaign later would be very easy. (Terrain, houses, etc. Can be recycled)
  • Majority of the weapons are already in the Enlist game available.
  • As a conflict very “forgotten war” and neglected internationally, although extremely bloody, basically market monopoly on vast Asian markets guaranteed with plenty of players (Get ready for melting servers due to over logging from china, Korea and western countries).

This campaign would be very interesting from the players perspective and also bring a huge new market of players with wealth on the game.

P.S I Want to do some gaming on the North Korean side just for kicks, please build this campaing.

The biggest problem is that this war is still ongoing, and although it ended in 1953, it was only an armistice and the war on the Korean Peninsula is still ongoing.

Would be cool!

I would also really like Vietnam, i want my Huey with rocket pods

cool idea
as for potential geair i see it being very similar to berlin/normandy
start with BA rifles and very quickly(possibly around lvl 5) switch to semis(garand, SVT, SKS) and fairly soon to autos(m14, AVT, maybe even AK)

Wonder why…

I would be 100% okay with this. On here and reddit I’ve pitched the idea many times because they already have the vast majority of the assets in place to use.
Coupled with the fact that that side of the world has industrialized and the SK market alone for games is huge.
It would be very easy to get it working and in play IMO.

Give me my ROK units dammit lol.

Well, i would like this new type of campaign, but i don´t have great hopes. Enlisted is a WW2 shooter and the Korean war lasted, as said, from 1950 to 1953 (which was definetly after WW2). Maybe it could be at least an event like the “modern War” were you could play Soviets vs Americans on the tunisia map.

I would like to see WW2 at least fully represented before we start doing subsequent wars.

My counter argument to that is simple. Money.
You have the most populous country as one of the belligerents in the conflict, combined with another 2 countries with High proportions of gaming population.

Many Dev’s have done it for those exact reasons.
WG Bringing in Chinese Premiums, Tech Trees, Pan-Asian stuff is all about Money. And there is a lot that would flow if this campaign comes to light.
More so than Vietnam IMPO.
You have already existing assets (Weapons and Vehicles) , Modes (maybe the addition of CTF turned into Capture the Hill) etc.

I want more of the WWII campaign 100%, but from a business standpoint, Korea would be huge. Also, they would really get a monopoly on it by the lack of actual competition in the MMO game genre representing that War.

it will likely be M1C and sks as starting rifles, and M14s didn’t evne see productions until way after korea

The way to get more Asians in the game is to give them a proper server in Asia.

It’s fked up they have to play on us or eu servers and just limit their fun this way.

Korean war probably will never happen because China won’t allow Enlisted if they implement it.

Also since darkflow is Russian they probably won’t either because the Soviets denied partaking in the war.

I agree with your detailed business perspective, this would increase the Enlisted cash revenue quite rapidly with very little/ low amount of investment to new levels.

After successful launch of Korean War campaign the revenue would also feed in to R&D for the other already existing campaigns.

South Korea alone is a huge gaming market, also this game would probably even move international politics because North Korea would most likely issue a statement (I mean, free press and commercial value, how cool would that be?)

By getting Chinese players & South Koreans online… Yeah, thats some real money right there.

And for those who responded that Asia Pacific campaign should be done first.

  • I understand your point, however… How this decision would differentiate Enlisted from any other WWII FPS game out there?

Korean War was extension of the second world war in certain since and to already have majority of the hardware used developed in the game (T34s, guns, jeeps etc) This is literally too good of an opportunity to pass by?

Very little investment, huge potential financial and market gains. Most likely would cause North Korea which is very uptick about its public image to say something/ issue a statement that could be used as a “Pro Bono Advertisement”.

The opportunity… Just too good to pass?

Also, Asia Pacific campaing could be done after this anyway?

Did I mention that I have a real life degree on International Business and International Relations and on top of that Masters Degree on Business Managment.

  • Yes, I vote for the Korean Campaing.

Korea from a technological standpoint wouldn’t be too difficult, Most of the weapons used are already in game (Tommy, Garand, BAR, DT-27, PPSh and the like) with the one exception being the SKS. Vehicles would also be simple enough, as the ones that are not in the game yet can just be imported from War Thunder, like the Patton, Migs and Shooting Star and Sabres. The big problems are balance and politics. For balance, the main problem is going to be aircraft, as you had commonplace use of both jet and propeller drive aircraft, which would not mesh well together, so you probably would need to do only one or the other. Personally, I would stick with the prop planes, but that is just me. The other problem is Politics, however there is a workaround. The Chinese can just be excluded by focusing on the early part of the war where it was just the NATO coalition against the North Koreans supplied by the USSR. The Chinese only got involved when the Coalition got too close to their borders in October of 1950, so if you just do something from before that, like maybe the Battle of Incheon, then you can just forgo the politics problem, and blame historical accuracy.

Technically speaking, they could attempt a crowdfund to drum up interest for the campaign, just to see if they get enough to put it into development and added.
I actually watched this be a successful model on another game, MWO.
The forum had clamored since the beginning for a special Mech (Urban Mech). Well, enough noise was made that the Dev basically asked us to put our $$$ where our mouth was.
The mech required some special work (game mechanics) to get it to function, so they basically wanted us to pay to develop it. And let me tell you, we did. I can’t remember the numbers, but I think they hit their goal within hours of posting it up for sale.

I wonder if they could pull off the same success here. It would give them a gauge on the interest for it, and give them an idea on what kind of funding they could get to pull it off.
Dev work would be luckily cut in half because of pre-existing assets the game already has in place.
And I am sure they can ‘borrow’ models as required from WT.

The Air Support side, is the only questionable one because of the existence (as stated previously) of both Prop and Jet aircraft.
They have to then pick one or the other. I don’t think it would be fair to have both.

All I ask, is for a Premium Canuck Squad, so I can go take a Hill or two with them.

i dont think jets would be the main issu
im pretty sure the eraly jets arent a massive improvement over props, especially not at lower altitudes

a bigger problem might be the infantry gear

Eh, infantry gear is mostly balanced, its mostly going to be US vs USSR gear from WW2 with a few British and Japanese weapons supplementing gaps, if any exist. Early jets to props may be balanced, but its most definitely not fun so its better to go with just one or the other. Also, Russian tanks are lacking in light tanks, so there needs to be a tank to fill that gap that the Chaffee and Cromwell fill for the NATO coalition (Maybe a T 50 or a Chi-Ha Kai captured during WW2?)

they might skip chaffee and have us start off with the easy 8 vs t-34-85
