the IRL advantage of shotguns is that they fire a spread of lead, making them more effective at mid range
unrealistic is more for the pump shotguns, instakill with pump shotguns would be very much OP

i think having them instakill up to 10 m would be fair, with downing up to 20(maybe +5/+10 for double barrels)
yeah but in certain maps they would be pure cancer, especially with ppl that camp corners and are fucking worms.
Shotguns will kill anything bellow 40m with a short barrel shotgun guarantee. And those long barrel models such as the ToZ-B, will do it at longer ranges, also in real life pellets don’t magically disappear past melee range, shooting at some one at 100m will still have a good chance of killing them or causing serious wounds, unlike post nerf enlisted shotguns that only fire blank rounds and the only way to kill with them is to press the barrel against someone’s head and pray for them to past out from the sound and a minor burn.
I suggested to alleviate that problem is that you use a mix of buckshot and slugs.
change from buckshot to slug by using the fire rate toggle option.
slugs for medium range and buckshot for close range.
I think this would fix all problems but nobody seemed to give a shit.
Playerbase is too braindead for this mechanic to work.

The most annoying thng about shotguns, is that they initially nailed them, they worked very well and where in a perfect spot. Then out of nowhere they made them useless.

Shotguns have an effective range of about 35 m (38 yd) with buckshot, 45 m (49 yd) with birdshot, 100 m (110 yd) with slugs, and well over 150 m (160 yd) with saboted slugs in rifled barrels.

Effective isn’t maximum, and it depends, on the model of the weapon, the load of the shot and the amount and size of the buckshot.
Also effective range in shotguns, is considered a guarantee kill, which goes back to the point that pellets don’t magically disappear in thin air after x amount of meters, and past their effective range they remain very deadly, but it isn’t guarantee that you are going to get a hit. Even at a 100 meters there is a good chance that you will hit some one with buckshot, and it would retain enough energy to cause serious wounds if it hits the torso or head.
Also birdshot doesn’t retain its energy very well, the whole point of it is to force a bird to fall not, to necessarily to kill it, so it doesn’t do much to a larger target at range
Then you probably have evidence of such, quick googling gave 0 results of buckshots being lethal / harmful past 45 even less at 100m.

Ask for the right load of buck shot #00 is what is usually used in a military context, due to better energy retention.
Take in account that they ain’t using a long barrel shotgun, so their accuracy isn’t necessarily the best.

Yeah, I kinda intentionally left this “result” out, as chance of such is as said above. Pretty much same as being hit by meteorite and this is with modern equipment.
You find quote the par where they mentioned that they are using a shotgun with a 350mm barrel (14 inch), rather than something longer like a 750mm barrel, and that it varies a lot in between different shotguns.
Which again goes for the point that it can kill if it impacts, and with a long barrel shotgun it has a decent chance to hit.
