BR+Map Ban System And How It Should Work

1. Introduction

This thread is based on the premise that I really care about WW2. If you don’t care about WW2, you won’t find this thread meaningful for you and that’s ok, to each their own.

2. Purpose

I strongly believe that T-26 in Berlin or King Tiger in Stalingrad is insane and I will never play those matches because I want to enjoy my time playing, not get irritated, so I quit 100%% of such games now, leaving my poor teammates in 9v10 situations – which I would prefer not to do if we had a BR+Map Ban System.

3. Everyone wins

With the BR+Map Ban System all maps could be opened to all BRs if needed, potentially even improving matchmaking. Those who don’t know/care about WW2 will drive their Panthers in North Africa and be happy, and those who know/care will enjoy their matches and not quit.

3. Protection against exploits

One could argue that with such a system a player could e.g. just select BR2 army and ban every single BR3 and above map, thus always being the top dog in BR1-2 matches and never getting uptiered – in order to prevent this a rule could be set that you can’t ban every single uptier opportunity – at the end of the day the matchmaker would first decide if you’re going into a BR1-2 or BR2-3 match, so the chances of uptier/downtier would still be 50/50.

4. How it should work

Here is an example of how my BR+map bans would go:

5. Wishful thinking – renaming “Moscow” into “Western Russia” and opening to BR4

The “Moscow” map set really doesn’t have anything fromn the city of Moscow itself (unlike Stalingrad, Rzhev and Berlin; plus the Germans never entered Moscow proper), so I think it could be reworked and renamed to “Western Russia”, represent the areas around Smolensk, Vyazma and Bryansk and be opened up to BR4 as that area did see both 1941 early war fighting as well as Panthers, Tigers, IS-1 and T-34-85 in the winter of 1943-44 (but not IS-2/Tiger 2 from BR5).

In my opinion this system would work better if there were many different campaigns, all of them set in slightly different time periods, but each campaign would only have a few maps, so maps would be very diverse and players could actually choose.

western front for example:

Narvik
Dunkirk
Battles of Alamein
Dieppe raid
Tunisia
Sicily
Monte Cassino
Normandy
Second Battle of the Alps
Battle of Aachen
Battle of the Bulge
Battle of Cologne
(they are about in chronological order)

Sadly devs seem to be doing the opposite, make few campaigns with many maps for each campaign.

BRs doesn’t reflect year of war. So this whole suggestion doesn’t make any sense.

true, but Veekay suggests that devs open all campaigns to all BRs and introduce BR based banning maps.
This is just an example how he would ban campaigns for himself:

That’s what they’re clearly intending to do.

But it’s obvious Moscow and mainly Tunisia maps are not ready for high BRs. They need to be reworked first.

As long as we can keep gamemode based “banning” as well, I don’t care.

But it’s very unlikely it’s going to be hard ban instead of preference.

I kinda dig this idea. However as someone who does not fully care about historical accuracy, I don’t really want to ban fronts but specific maps, I don’t mind playing BR V Stalingrad unless it is Tractor Plant, I don’t mind playing BR II Normandy as long as it is not D-Day.

I completely agree with the system proposed, its the ideal solution that could satisfy both the HA crowd and the casual run and gun crowd that would play any reskin.

This is the general theme… no?

You don’t even need to go around asking certain forum members’ opinion about this

The video explaining BRs is still on Enlisted’s official channel, not deleted, not unlisted

It clearly says “BR symbolises the time period when your weapon was used”

So it clearly is the base, with exceptions on top like PPSh-41 drum for “belens”

BRs should be a compromise between year of war AND power level of said gear.

Both extremes on their own are bad for the game. If you only go by power level you will destroy the WW2 feeling of the game - but if you only go by years of war you’ll end up with KV1 vs Panzer III J or T34 vs Tiger.

The current BRs are actually quite good with this, with just a few exceptions like Volkssturm weapons or Puma being BR2 and BR3, while WW1 Fedorov being BR5 - if you igonre these (which also by the way could move into the more fitting BRs with a few smart balance tweaks) then you have already early war gear fighting in early war matches, while late war gear fighting in late war matches.

The current changes to this heavily destroy this already established BR logic and opens the door to completely ignore WW2 time periods.

After some thought I now finally disagree with the current changes to the match maker - and opening all BRs to play on all maps will destroy not only the authenticity of the overall WW2 feeling, but it will also destroy the unique gameplay the many maps and battle ratings had.

You know, I find it remarkable that your profile picture is still the “remove Stalingrad from BR4 and BR5” - and I honestly ask myself why this was never even considered to be corrected by the devs.

Stalingrad never saw Tigers, Panthers and was for the most part an early war setting, even BR3 gear is not really fitting the majority of the fighting.

Stalingrad always should have been for BR2 - BR3 matches while Moscow should have been BR1 - BR2, this would have been the most logical setting, but apparently no one cares about this stuff anymore.

Its sad.

It’s insane, really.

We went from the devs recreating Volkssturm weapons for the Berlin campaign and the entire Stalingrad city center in its 1942 state

To then casually allowing Tiger 2s to Stalingrad with the Merge and never even mentioning anything like "we’ll move it down to low BRs when we add more high BR Soviet maps).

Then they added Rzhev (1942-43). not Konigsberg, Budapest or Vienna (1944-45) and opened it to all BRs from the very start.

Now we’re getting biplanes over the Reichstag because “haha variety!”.

The game literally did a 180 on its original market offer and players who invested time, effort and money from 2020-21 in particular.

Well thats the issue - if everything gets mixed together, then variety will become meaningless.
